The mill includes multiple process lines of wood handling, pulping, power and recovery, and effluent treatment. The scope of the position includes implementing, coordinating, maintaining, monitoring, and reporting the progress of environmental programs. The position works within the HSE, Health Safety and Environmental, group and reports to the Environmental Manager.\nThe Job You Will Perform:\nThe Environmental Engineer’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:\nProviding visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results\nReporting and communicating safety and performance measurements against objectives\nCompleting safety audits to ensure internal and external resources are complying with safe work practices\nCoordinating and driving all waste management compliance activities \nEnsuring that the mill is aligned with corporate initiatives and priorities\nInterfacing directly with federal, state regulatory agencies and community members to represent the mill within the community and region\nParticipates in environmental compliance audits and assists the sites in closing the open action items\nPrepares, reviews and updates environmental reports \nInteracting with and providing regulatory guidance to mill operations, maintenance, and management personnel on a day-to-day basis \nManaging day-to-day waste activities related to landfill operations and provide support to landfill operators\nParticipating as a member of HSE department; maintaining strong relationships with other business unit personnel as well as operating and maintenance department leaders\nCoordinating and communicating with operating departments regarding regulatory concerns/support, including periodic training for salaried and hourly teams on environmental compliance as needed\nServing on a weekend duty team for the HSE group\nProviding environmental support during outages\nActing as owner’s representative for contractors providing services within Environmental department\nDevelop Corrective Actions Plans to address systematic gaps\nParticipating and leading in the development of Environmental Management System procedures for Waste management\nActively using and improving upon existing systems for managing daily activities, including development of standard operating procedures (SOP)\nInitiating and facilitating problem solving through trouble-cause-correction processes (TCC)\nUtilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively\nMaintain process knowledge and understanding of HSE operations, regulatory requirements and systems\nWork effectively alone and within a team\nMake timely and effective decisions\nImplementing systems to improve/sustain results\nFacilitating the implementation of new procedures and controls required by the change in facilities, products, and corporate policies and procedures\nServing on a weekend duty team for the HSE group\nPerform other duties as requested\nRequired Experience:\nBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or other related field\nNo less than one (8-10) year of experience in a manufacturing environment (pulp and paper industry experience preferred). \nEnvironmental area experience or knowledge is preferred. \nKnowledge and experience with practical application of environmental regulations desired. \nMust be experienced using a computer and skilled in word processing, spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel)\nPlant Applications and PI ProcessBook experience is desired but not required \nPosition level and
