In this role, you will focus on thermal control and thermal protection hardware on satellites and spacecraft components. You will interpret each program’s requirements to direct the mechanical design, manufacture, and integration of spacecraft thermal hardware, including thermal blankets, shields, and similar hardware. You will collaborate with the thermal team (engineering, analysis, and manufacturing), space environments, mechanical design, assembly integration and test (AIT), and other functions to ensure design completeness. You will interpret these requirements to design 3D model-based engineering of thermal insulation and shielding. You will create or update and release dimensioned design drawings for 3D printed, fiberglass, or metal shielding needed for temperature control or protection from radio frequency, radiation and micro-meteoroids. You will create thermal installation drawings to locate and integrate all blankets, shields, and bracketry onto a spacecraft. You will also lead design reviews, complete thermal hardware inspections, and support spacecraft thermal hardware integrations through all phases.\nResponsibilities:\nInterpret and implement thermal hardware requirements received from thermal subsystem leads\nCollaborate with cross-functional personnel to develop thermal hardware designs that meet requirements\nComplete engineering design of thermal control & thermal protection hardware\nUse Creo Parametric to develop engineering models and drawings\nInitiate engineering change requests & notices\nSupport prototyping, manufacturing, and fit checking of thermal hardware\nPrepare detailed technical reports on work performed\nProvide functional guidance to less experienced technical personnel\nLead continuous improvement initiatives\nExercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action\nOther duties as assigned\nMinimum Requirements:\nMust be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident\nBS in mechanical/aerospace engineering or related discipline. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.\n2 years of relevant experience. A master's degree may account for two years of experience\nUnderstanding of and proficiency in the use of computer-aided design software (such as Creo Parametric and AutoCAD) \nAbility to accommodate occasional non-standard shifts (i.e. swing shifts as well as weekend/holiday shifts) during peak milestone delivery time frames\nPreferred Qualifications:\n2+ years of experience in space industry thermal control and thermal protection\nCollege coursework or experience in heat transfer\nUnderstanding of mathematics, physics, and material properties as they relate to mechanical components and systems\nTeamcenter or PLM Software experience\nGood spatial visualization ability\nExperience with hands-on production support\nExperience in creating and interpreting engineering drawings\nContribute to continuous improvement (CI) projects\nExcellent communication and teamwork skills, project/time management, ability to meet deadlines and pay attention to details\nProficient in Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook\nInterest in thermal engineering and/or space systems\n\nIn support of pay transparency at Lanteris Space Systems, we disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.\n\n•The base pay for this position within California is: $82,000.00 - $136,000.00 annually.\n\nFor all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.\nWe offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, health and welfare insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
