You will develop internal applications, automation platforms, and AI-enabled tools that directly improve how we design, manufacture, and operate next-generation spacecraft.\nYou will join our Internal Software Tools team and take ownership of a major software project, either building a new product from the ground up or developing a substantial feature in an existing application. You will work directly with engineers and other stakeholders to identify problems, develop solutions, and deliver software that people across the company use every day.\nThis is an opportunity to work across the full software stack, from frontend applications and backend services to APIs, data infrastructure, and modern AI/LLM integrations. We're looking for builders who enjoy turning ideas into real products and are excited about exploring how software and AI can transform the aerospace industry.\nKey Responsibilities\nOwn a major software engineering project from initial concept and requirements gathering through design, implementation, testing, and production deployment.\nDesign and build full-stack applications, including intuitive user interfaces, backend services, APIs, databases, and integrations.\nDevelop AI-enabled tools and intelligent automation systems that streamline engineering and business workflows.\nIntegrate large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and other emerging technologies into practical software applications where appropriate.\nCollaborate directly with engineers, operations teams, and other stakeholders to understand their workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.\nGather feedback from real users, iterate on solutions, and deliver polished, production-quality tools.\nRequired Qualifications\nCurrently pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.\nDemonstrated software development experience through personal projects, open-source contributions, research, engineering teams, or previous internships.\nExperience building software applications using one or more languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, or Rust.\nFamiliarity with frontend or backend application development, including web frameworks, APIs, or databases.\nStrong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including debugging, testing, data structures, and application design.\nDemonstrated ability to independently build software projects and learn new technologies.\nStrong problem-solving skills, creativity, and a willingness to tackle loosely defined technical challenges.\nAbility to collaborate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders and communicate ideas effectively.\nDesired Qualifications\nExperience developing full-stack web applications using technologies such as React, TypeScript, Python, Node.js, or similar frameworks.\nExperience building and deploying applications used by real users.\nFamiliarity with databases, REST APIs, and integrations between software systems.\nExperience integrating large language models (LLMs) into applications using APIs or open-source frameworks.\nFamiliarity with AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool calling, or agent orchestration frameworks.\nExperience with Docker, Linux, CI/CD pipelines, or modern application deployment workflows.\nExperience building internal tools, dashboards, workflow automation, or developer productivity tools.\nInterest in applying AI and modern software technologies to complex engineering and business problems.\nOur office headquarters is located in Playa Vista, CA. This position requires in office presence for the duration of the internship.\nThe California annual base hourly rate for this role is currently $38-$41. Pay Grades are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data.
