We deliver rich analytics solutions through our BI platform and custom web tools, enabling senior leaders to access, interpret, and act on critical business information.\nYour Role\nThe Principal Data Engineer sits within the Business Intelligence & Analytics function as a part of the Tech and Ops, reporting to the Manager Data. The Engineer will be part of a small Team that owns the end-to-end process of managing the availability, reliability, and accessibility of data in a MS SQL data mart.\nThe role will be responsible for leading the creation, maintenance, and support of the data mart environment, including T-SQL tables, stored procedures, views, and functions. The Principal Data Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all process and data imports are functioning as designed and any issues are addressed in a timely and efficient manner. In addition, they will work on setting up and maintaining ETL processes for the data mart utilizing the most appropriate tool for the type connection and data source.\nAll work is done in partnership with their counterparts in other functions within Business Intelligence to ensure consistency of the data services and deliverables that BI & Analytics provides, as well as in partnership with their Business and/or Technology counterparts.\nYou will be responsible for:\nDesigning, developing, and maintaining robust database solutions to deliver actionable insights to leadership and cross-functional teams.\n\nBuilding data models that support Business Intelligence (BI) and self-service reporting, adhering to both industry and function-specific standards.\n\nDeveloping and maintaining data models optimized for analytics and reporting.\n\nWriting complex, efficient SQL queries using best practices and modern methodologies.\n\nDesigning, building, and maintaining scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest data from diverse internal and external sources.\n\nOptimizing SQL queries and ETL jobs for performance and cost efficiency.\n\nEnsuring the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of data pipelines.\n\nCollaborating with BI developers and analysts to ensure data availability, quality, and usability.\n\nProviding technical support for data-related issues and troubleshooting data pipeline failures.\n\nImplement monitoring and alerting mechanisms for proactive issue detection.\n\nMaintaining comprehensive documentation for data flows, schemas, and processes.\n\nContinuously improving existing systems and processes by applying innovative solutions, best practices, and strategic thinking in data management.\n\nImplementing processes to detect and resolve blocking, deadlocks, and inefficient queries.\n\nProactively addressing data quality issues and ensure data integrity across systems.\n\nOwning the end-to-end data flow process and understanding various data types and their business context.\n\nThe experience you bring:\nMinimum of 8 years of experience in a SQL Server database environment including database design, data loading/unloading, performance tuning, and security best practices.\n\nStrong expertise in writing complex SQL queries using CTEs, subqueries, joins, and temporary tables.\n\nSolid experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools like Airbyte, dbt or AWS Glue\n\nProficient in AWS cloud services such as S3, IAM Roles, Policies, and Lambda for database and data pipeline solutions.\n\nExperience orchestrating data workflows using Apache Airflow and/or Stonebranch UAC, including workflow design, scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting.\n\nDeep experience in developing SSIS packages and utilizing all data flow task transformations\n\nGood to have knowledge on Snowflake\n\nStrong knowledge of data modeling concepts and best practices.\n\nFamiliarity with BI tools such as Power BI is a plus.\n\nYour Abilities:\nIs comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment\n\nCan manage multiple tasks simultaneously, pays close attention to detail\n\nPossesses exceptional oral and written communications skills\n\nFeels comfortable participating in Team discussions and share feedback\n\nAble to communicate with all levels including junior members and senior management\n\nIs adept at managing competing priorities\n\nCan work both independently and as part of a team\n\nAbility to work effectively with technical and business staff across geographic areas\n\nFull Time / Part Time\nFull time\nWorker Type\nEmployee\nJob Exempt (Yes / No)\nYes\nWorkplace Model\nAt Invesco, our workplace model supports our culture and meets the needs of our clients while providing flexibility our employees value.
