We are at the beginning of our DevOps and CI/CD journeys, and we need a strong technologist with deep technical experience to help build our culture of code-as-craft and move our automation efforts forward. Working with the VP of Engineering and the CIO, you will work to chart the course of our technical architecture by owning our architecture strategy, refining and realizing it by working across all our engineering teams. You will lead the Core API and Platform Engineering teams, which are building the capabilities that will power our business and enable and accelerate the rest of the teams across technology.\n** Invitation Homes does not offer employment-based visa sponsorship for this role at this time.\nWhat You’ll Do \nPartner with the VP of Engineering and other senior Engineering leaders to provide overall leadership and mentorship to the Engineering organization as a whole\n\nHire, develop, manage, and coach high-performing diverse teams of managers and engineers, focused on cross-cutting concerns such as our Core API and Platform Engineering teams\n\nDevelop knowledge of the business and understand key organizational strategies to develop and communicate a vision of how the Engineering team can help execute against these strategies\n\nDefine team goals and oversee engineering execution with an overall objective of excellence in code quality and seamless, rapid code deployment\n\nOwn and run our Solution Architecture practice, ensuring that teams are collaborating on their approaches to how they will build their solutions and that they are realizing the principles of our architecture strategy and approach\n\nBuild and lead the Core API team, which is building the foundation of our API and event-based approach to connecting systems\n\nBuild and lead the Platform Engineering team, which is creating and supporting the development platforms in use by our other engineering teams, such as providing shared CI/CD capabilities, building and maintaining reference implementations of key technologies, and maintaining core engineering infrastructure, such as our event bus\n\nAdvance our efforts to “shift-left” on security, helping to build security into the DNA of the engineering organization, and partnering with our security team to apply their expertise throughout the software development lifecycle\n\nCoordinate and collaborate with the Technology leadership and their teams on priorities, scope, requirements, and change management for all initiatives, programs, and projects where Technology and Engineering are involved\n\nFoster communication and collaboration across development teams, facilitating knowledge sharing, and helping engineers have a broader perspective than just their own area of expertise to help them grow and make better decisions\n\nPartner with our technology leaders to help run the Technology Architecture Guild, which contains representatives from across engineering and is responsible for building and maintaining strong engineering principles\n\nEvaluate, recommend and manage technologies to meet our needs, from open-source technologies to technology vendor partnerships\n\nParticipate in annual budgeting processes, helping to manage the overall technology budget as well as the specific Engineering budget\n\nWho We’re Looking For \nBachelor’s Degree or related experience\n\n15+ years of experience in software development and architecture\n\n10+ years of experience managing engineering teams\n\nTrack record of coaching and mentoring Engineering leaders on both technical and management tracks\n\nKnowledge of technical, operational, and cultural structures required to scale teams in a high-growth environment\n\nAbility to translate short and long-range strategic plans for enterprise-wide architecture into design and implementation of current and future applications and systems\n\nProven developer of enterprise APIs and messaging solutions, with the ability to decompose complex problems into logical domains\n\nExperience with implementation of enterprise integration architecture patterns and related technologies\n\nStrong technologist with knowledge of various architectural styles including layered, monolithic, client-server, or component based\n\nDeep understanding of AWS, Infrastructure-as-Code, and modern CI/CD practices\n\nPolyglot programmer; knowledge and awareness of multiple modern languages such as: Javascript, Typescript, node.js, Go, React, Java, Swift, Kotlin, .Net, SQL\n\nComfortable making the tough decisions when needed, and stepping back when needed; you know how to participate in the technical details while still empowering your team to make decisions\n\nExcellent communication skills - verbal and written, with bonus points for having excellent public speaking abilities\n\nAble to both collaborate with and negotiate with peers inside and outside of Engineering\n\nWhy Invitation Homes \nWe stand for flexibility, opportunity, and a home that people can make their own.
