You will work closely with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, BI Developers, Architects, and business stakeholders to ensure data is accessible, trusted, well-structured, and ready for reporting and advanced analytics.\nWhat you'll do:\nDesign, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data integration solutions.\nDevelop data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, including components such as:\nFabric Data Factory\nOneLake\nLakehouse\nData Warehouse\nDataflows Gen2\nFabric Notebooks\nBuild and optimise ETL/ELT processes across multiple structured and unstructured data sources.\nDevelop and maintain Lakehouse and Data Warehouse architectures.\nIngest data from APIs, databases, cloud platforms, files, and other enterprise systems.\nTransform, cleanse, validate, and prepare data for reporting, analytics, and data science use cases.\nDevelop solutions using SQL, Python and/or PySpark.\nImplement data quality, governance, monitoring, and validation processes.\nOptimise data pipelines and queries for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.\nSupport the development of semantic models and downstream Power BI reporting solutions.\nWork with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate these into technical solutions.\nTroubleshoot data pipeline failures, integration issues, and data quality problems.\nMaintain appropriate technical documentation, data mappings, and solution designs.\nFollow data security, governance, privacy, and access-control standards.\nSupport CI/CD and deployment processes across development, test, and production environments.\nContribute to the continuous improvement of the organisation's modern data platform and engineering practices.\nYour Expertise:\nRelevant qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field.\nProven experience working as a Data Engineer or in a similar data-focused role.\nHands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric.\nStrong experience with data integration and ETL/ELT development.\nStrong SQL skills.\nExperience with Python and/or PySpark.\nExperience working with Data Lakes, Lakehouses, and/or Data Warehouses.\nExperience building and managing data pipelines.\nGood understanding of dimensional modelling and data modelling principles.\nExperience working with relational and non-relational data sources.\nUnderstanding of data quality, governance, security, and access management.\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to work across technical and business teams.\nAdvantageous Skills:Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:\nMicrosoft Azure\nAzure Data Factory\nAzure Data Lake Storage\nAzure Synapse Analytics\nDatabricks\nPower BI\nDelta Lake / Delta tables\nSpark\nAzure DevOps\nGit and CI/CD\nAPIs and real-time or streaming data integration\nMicrosoft Purview\nMedallion architecture\nData governance and metadata management\nKey Competencies:\nStrong analytical and problem-solving ability\nAttention to detail and commitment to data quality\nAbility to work independently and within a collaborative team\nStrong communication skills\nAbility to translate business requirements into practical data solutions\nComfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving data environment\nPassion for modern data technologies and continuous learning\nThe ideal person is a hands-on Data Engineer who understands the broader Microsoft data ecosystem and has practical experience using Microsoft Fabric to build modern, scalable data platforms.\nYou should be comfortable working across ingestion, transformation, storage, modelling, and delivery of data, while collaborating with both technical teams and business stakeholders.\nOther information applicable to the opportunity:\nContract position\nLocation: Johannesburg - hybrid way of work\nSenior level (7+ years)\nWhy work for us?\nWant to work for an organization that solves complex real-world problems with innovative software solutions?
