In this role, you will contribute to the implementation, execution, and analysis of quantum error correction (QEC) experiments on superconducting quantum processors.\nYour work will help demonstrate and improve QEC capabilities on real hardware and directly support IQM’s roadmap toward scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computing.\nThis role combines experimental quantum computing, error modelling, and software development, offering the opportunity to work at the intersection of quantum hardware and software while contributing to key technical decisions that shape the future of our quantum computers.\n\nWhat will you be doing?\nImplement, execute, analyse, and report results of quantum error correction benchmark and demonstration experiments on superconducting quantum processors\n\nDevelop features for the Quantum Computer Control Software stack in collaboration with quantum physicists and software engineers\n\nContribute to the development and evaluation of QEC protocols and decoding approaches for near-term quantum processors\n\nModel and analyse error processes in quantum circuits and hardware experiments\n\nIdentify technology stack requirements for QEC experimentation and propose improvements to tools and workflows\n\nCollaborate closely with experimental, theoretical, and software teams to support IQM’s fault-tolerant quantum computing roadmap\n\nParticipate in regular team discussions to coordinate experiments, analyse results, and drive progress in QEC development\n\nWhat skills do you need?\nExperience calibrating qubits and QPUs (superconducting preferred), beyond running gate-level workloads on cloud quantum computers\n\nExperience with quantum error correction experiments and data analysis, with familiarity with QEC literature\n\nSoftware engineering experience in Python, including environment management, testing, documentation, and version control\n\nUnderstanding of quantum information and QEC theory, including decoding algorithms and lattice-surgery-based approaches\n\nExperience with tools for modelling errors in quantum circuits or physical quantum hardware\n\nFamiliarity with digital and analog features of quantum computer control hardware\n\nExperience working with large-scale quantum processor experiments or similarly complex experimental systems\n\nRequired skills\nStrong verbal and written communication skills in English\n\nAbility to make work reproducible and usable for others through well-structured code and documentation\n\nAbility and willingness to collaborate in a diverse, multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and software developers\n\nEducation / Experience\nPhD in a relevant discipline is considered a strong plus\n\nExperience in experimental quantum
