The candidate must have extensive hands-on experience in mechanical design and manufacturing of spacecraft structures and components.\nThe Mechanical Engineer will own the mechanical development of ispace Europe’s next-generation lunar rover, taking responsibility for the mechanical design from concept to flight. The position requires a strong understanding of the complete mechanical domain, a cross-functional mindset, and the ambition to deliver flight-ready space structures and mechanisms capable of withstanding the extreme environments of launch, transit and lunar operations.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nLead the mechanical design of assigned spacecraft hardware, including lunar rovers, lander interfaces and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE).\nDesign structural components, assemblies and mechanisms for lunar rover systems.\nPreparation of 3D models and engineering drawings for manufacturing.\nProduce build-to-print technical documentation.\nCreate, review and complete component design specifications and conduct design reviews.\nDevelop sound conceptual designs, including trade studies involving material and component selection, with early consideration of manufacturing processes and design validation.\nPerform rapid prototyping for early hardware testing and design validation.\nMature conceptual designs into detailed designs, ensuring structural and operational performance.\nMaintain proactive coordination with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.\nProactively identify risks and anticipate technical issues, and define and manage mitigation plans.\nCoordinate with suppliers, resolve manufacturing issues, support incoming inspections, and ensure the manufactured hardware conforms to the technical specifications.\nTravel occasionally to other ispace offices and supplier locations\nSupport AIT activities through the mechanical design of MGSE with a strong understanding of structure assemblies and integration requirements.\nKEY REQUIREMENTS\nBS and/or MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.\n5 to 10+ years of proven professional experience in mechanical design for aerospace, aviation or spaceflight applications.\nExtensive hands-on experience with CAD software and engineering drawing production.\nAdvanced knowledge and proven experience in Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis, including RSS methods.\nStrong understanding of mechanical structures, assemblies, and mechanisms.\nSolid knowledge of mechanical design, material selection, and fabrication processes and coatings for spaceflight hardware.\nUnderstanding of the design-analysis cycle and ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.\nAbility to independently drive mechanical design activities and take responsibility for assigned hardware and deliverables.\nProactive mindset, strong responsibility and ability to identify technical issues, challenge assumptions and actively driving problems to resolution.\nTeam player with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills\nComfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment, with the motivation and willingness to continuously learn and develop.\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\nProficiency in Solidworks, or equivalent CAD software.\nExperience with industrial development projects in the space industry\nDemonstrated experience in mechanical design of metallic and composite structures\nGood understanding of design for manufacturing principles and manufacturing processes\nExperience managing product BOM (Bill of Materials)\nUnderstanding of structure and thermal implications on the mechanical design\nExperience taking hardware through a complete project lifecycle, from concept to flight.\nPractical knowledge of relevant ECSS standards","description_format":"text","description_chars":4542,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Luxembourg","iso":"LU","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Space Services"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-24T18:56:48Z"}],"liveness":{"score":63,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.632,"p_room":1,"age_days":5,"expected_fill_days":59,"reasons":["conf:1","stale_co","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-09-30T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/ispace-mechanical-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/ispace-mechanical-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T00:16:01Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":321,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4679,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
