The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO), strong knowledge of laser safety standards, and hands-on experience with hazard assessments, exposure calculations, safety inspections, and radiation safety testing.\nLocation: Onsite - Redmond, WA\nPay Rate: $40 - $46 per hour, Depending on experience.\nDuration: 5 months\nWe provide comprehensive medical benefits, a 401k plan, paid holidays, and more.\nPlease note that we are only considering direct W2 candidates at this time, as we are unable to offer sponsorship.\nResponsibilities\nConduct laboratory inspections and audits to assess compliance with laser and radiation safety requirements, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.\nEvaluate safety hazards and assist in developing hardware requirements for equipment containing lasers, LEDs, X-ray generators, and other hazardous components.\nPerform laser exposure calculations, including Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE), Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance (NOHD), and Nominal Hazard Zone (NHZ), and conduct power, spectral, and temporal measurements of laser and LED sources.\nReview, develop, and approve laser and optical safety standard operating procedures (SOPs), and assess work performed by external laser service technicians.\nReview research and development experiments, conduct safety investigations and failure analyses, and perform testing to simulate faults and validate equipment design and optical safety.\nImplement radiation safety protocols, conduct X-ray leakage surveys, and audit training and procedures for X-ray-generating equipment in accordance with applicable requirements.\nCollaborate with research, product, engineering, and EHS teams to establish safety controls, communicate findings, and support additional programs such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), laboratory safety, chemical safety, electrical safety, and machine guarding.\nInternal Responsibilities\nAttend regular internal practice community meetings.\nCollaborate with your itD practice team on industry thought leadership.\nComplete client case studies and learning material (blogs, media material).\nBuild out material to contribute to the Digital Transformation practice.\nAttend internal itD networking events (in person and virtual).\nWork with leadership on career fast-track opportunities.\nRequired Qualifications and Skills\nAt least 5 years of experience as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO).\nProficiency in ANSI Z136.1 - The American National Standard for the Safe Use of Lasers.\nExperience conducting safety inspections, hazard assessments, investigations, and corrective-action development.\nFamiliarity with multiple radiation sources, including lasers, LEDs, and X-ray-generating equipment.\nExperience in a technical or engineering role involving field testing, failure analysis, reliability testing, or equivalent work.\nExperience reviewing safety procedures and establishing controls to address laser and radiation hazards.\nStrong communication, technical report-writing, and presentation skills.\nAbility to work effectively with cross-functional teams and personnel at all levels.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and apply critical thinking to technical safety challenges.\nBachelor's degree in Physics, Optical Sciences, Engineering, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or a related discipline; direct experience as an LSO or Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) may be accepted in lieu of a degree, as specified in the role requirements.\nPreferred Qualifications and Skills\nExperience working as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO) or Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) in a hardware research, development, or production environment.\nProficiency with FDA/CDRH Federal Laser Product Performance Standard (FLPPS), IEC 60825-1, and IEC 62471-1.\nStrong understanding of laser safety calculations, including MPE, NOHD, and NHZ, across different laser types and configurations.\nCertified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) credential from the Board of Laser Safety (BLS).\nExperience influencing cross-functional teams through timely, accurate technical analysis and recommendations.\nExperience implementing applicable California requirements for X-ray-generating equipment.\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Physics, Optical Sciences, Engineering, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or a related discipline.\nDirect experience as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO) or Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) may be accepted in lieu of the degree requirement.\nCompany Description\nAbout itD: We are part of a new generation of consulting and software development company that blends diversity, innovation, and integrity with real business results.
