You have accountability for the engineering excellence of the data platform, realising this from the current state and evolving engineering practices to meet the changing demand.\nYou use your technical breadth and depth to build and operate mission-critical systems at scale inspiring engineering community you interact with.\nSuccessfully transforming the way we build and operate platforms, allowing SW engineering platform consumers to focus on value-added work will be a key activity.\nKey Responsibilities\nWhilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:\nEstablishing and sharing engineering excellence for data platforms\nBuilding the data platforms to transform them without impact to existing levels of service\nDesigning solutions that will operate at scale with high availability and automation at its core.\nAbility to produce High-Level Documentation for designed solutions\nBuilding globally, ensuring consistency in approach throughout all our locations in the UK, Europe and Asia\nMonitoring technology industry trends\nContributing to supplier roadmaps\nEnsuring operational stability is balanced with engineering and roadmap delivery\nDriving adoption of new tools and techniques being able to understand their value and impact\nKeeping technical skills up to date and keeping track of new technologies, industry trends, understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider Tesco\nSkills & Experience\nExperience relevant for this job:\nTrack record of managing mission-critical, large scale service in a global organisation.\nExpertise with design, deploy and support large scale Kubernetes clusters.\nStrong experience level with Docker, Rancher, Terraform, Ansible and Jenkins.\nStrong technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills with Linux (CentOS/RHEL/Ubuntu).\nGood skills and understanding of networking technologies (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, LBs, etc).\nExperience on creating CI/CD pipelines for delivery and IaC (infrastructure as code).\nAbility to do and understand scripting/coding, with Bash, Python, Go, etc.\nAbility to understand, design, deploy and support large scale, complex platforms.\nTrack record of using automation to build platforms and prevent problem recurrence.\nOps experience in automated delivery such as continuous integration, continuous deployment and immutable infrastructure.\nContributing to the Opensource community.\nAbility to work collaboratively with other members of a globally distributed team.\nGood understanding of Azure cloud technologies.\nSkills relevant for the job:\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nA methodical/ analytical approach and great problem-solving skills\nTeam player who could work collaboratively with other members of the team\nDevOps Practices\nCloud Technologies\nInfrastructure as Code \nRequired Skills:\nSolid experience with administration and troubleshooting of Linux servers (rhel/ubuntu)\nExperience creating container-based solutions on an enterprise container platform (e.g. Rancher, OpenShift, Docker EE, Azure AKS)\nProficiency with Kubernetes\nDocker image builds\nRepository management (Docker & Helm based)\nLogging, monitoring and alerting\nKubernetes cluster networking implementation\nKubernetes cluster storage implementation\nKubernetes security\nKubernetes Ingress and load balancing\nScripting/coding skills - Bash, Python, Golang or similar\nDesired State Configuration Tools - one of Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform or similar\nA very good understanding and experience with Networking - TCP/IP, routing, DNS, DHCP, Load balancers\nDesired Skills\nSystems architecture, security and Disaster Recovery\nGood understanding of the CNCF landscape\nCreating CI/CD Pipelines for delivery\nAdditional information\nTesco is a diverse and exciting employer, dedicated to being #aplacetogeton, providing career-defining opportunities to all of our colleagues.
