Join us.\nPosition Summary (Must have graduated recently or graduated in 2025):\nWe are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Engineer to join our Embedded Firmware Validation team in Bangalore. This opportunity is ideal for recent graduates who are passionate about embedded systems, firmware testing, and product quality, and are eager to build a career in the technology industry serving Utilities and Energy customers.\nAs an Apprentice Engineer, you will work closely with experienced engineers to validate embedded firmware running on ARM-based microcontrollers, execute firmware and protocol testing activities, support test automation initiatives, and contribute to the quality and reliability of innovative products. This role provides hands-on experience in firmware validation, debugging, protocol testing, and automation within a collaborative and agile engineering environment.\nWe value individuals who demonstrate a customer-centric mindset, accountability, authenticity, agility, collaboration, and innovation while contributing to the development of high-quality solutions for Utilities and Energy customers.\nDuties & Responsibilities:\nAssist in validating embedded firmware functionality, performance, reliability, and quality across product development initiatives.\nExecute firmware verification, validation, and regression test cases to ensure compliance with product requirements.\nSupport protocol testing activities and verify communication between embedded devices and associated systems.\nAnalyze test results, identify defects, and assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.\nWork closely with senior engineers to investigate firmware issues and support product quality improvements.\nParticipate in the development, execution, and maintenance of automated test scripts and test frameworks.\nContribute to the testing and validation of RF-enabled and battery-operated devices where applicable.\nDocument test procedures, test results, defects, and verification reports in a clear and organized manner.\nCollaborate with firmware, hardware, and cross-functional engineering teams to support successful product releases.\nParticipate actively in agile activities, including planning sessions, reviews, retrospectives, and team discussions.\nDemonstrate accountability for assigned tasks and ensure timely completion of deliverables while maintaining high-quality standards.\nContribute innovative ideas that improve firmware validation processes, test automation, product reliability, and team effectiveness.\nRequired Skills & Experience:\nEducation Required\nBachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.\nMust have graduated recently or be graduating in 2025.\nNo active backlogs at the time of application. \nEligibility Requirements\nNo prior full-time work experience.\nNo prior apprenticeship experience.\nWork Model: This role follows a hybrid work model. Team members may be required to attend the office based on business needs, team collaboration requirements, and the office attendance cadence established by their manager.\nTechnical Skills\nGood understanding of embedded systems and embedded firmware validation concepts.\nGood understanding of firmware development and debugging using C and/or Assembly language.\nGood understanding of ARM-based microcontrollers and embedded architectures.\nKnowledge of firmware testing methodologies, validation techniques, and defect tracking processes.\nUnderstanding of communication protocol testing and protocol validation concepts.\nFamiliarity with RF-enabled and battery-operated devices is desirable.\nBasic knowledge of test automation concepts and scripting practices.\nExposure to automation programming languages such as Python or C# is an advantage.\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.\nUnderstanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and quality assurance practices.\nProfessional Skills\nStrong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with global team members.\nAbility to work effectively in a collaborative and cross-functional team environment.\nDemonstrated accountability, learning agility, and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business and project requirements.\nCustomer-centric mindset with a passion for delivering reliable and high-quality technology solutions.\nInnovative thinking and eagerness to learn new technologies, tools, and engineering practices.\nPreferred Skills & Experience:\nExposure to embedded systems, firmware development, or firmware validation projects through academic coursework, internships, or personal projects.\nExperience working with ARM-based microcontrollers and embedded hardware platforms.\nFamiliarity with firmware testing, protocol testing, and system-level validation activities.\nUnderstanding of RF communication technologies and battery-powered device architectures.\nExposure to test automation frameworks and scripting using Python, C#, or similar technologies.\nKnowledge of debugging tools, embedded development environments, and test equipment.\nFamiliarity with Agile development and testing methodologies.\nDemonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed and diverse teams.\nPassion for technology, innovation, and continuous learning.\nInterest in developing high-quality embedded solutions that support Utilities and Energy customers.\nItron is committed to building an inclusive and diverse workforce and providing an authentic workplace experience for all employees.
