This role combines project leadership, budget management, contractor oversight and stakeholder engagement to help deliver works safely, efficiently and to agreed quality standards.\nYou'll work closely with council colleagues, consultants, contractors and building users, coordinating project activities, resolving delivery challenges and keeping stakeholders informed throughout the construction process.\nAbout the Role\nAs Construction Senior Project Manager, you'll oversee allocated construction projects, coordinating the people, resources and information needed to achieve agreed objectives. You'll help establish clear project requirements, manage programmes and budgets, and monitor progress through to completion and handover.\nThe role requires strong construction knowledge, sound commercial judgement and the confidence to manage complex issues while maintaining a clear focus on safety, quality, cost and delivery.\nWhat you'll be doing:\nLeading allocated construction projects, coordinating activities from the relevant project stage through to completion and handover.\nDeveloping and maintaining project plans and programmes, identifying milestones, dependencies, resource requirements and delivery risks.\nClarifying project requirements and scope, working with stakeholders to establish clear objectives, responsibilities and expected outcomes.\nManaging project budgets and cost forecasts, monitoring expenditure, investigating variances and reporting financial pressures promptly.\nCoordinating consultants, designers and contractors, ensuring responsibilities are understood and project information is shared effectively.\nSupporting procurement and contract management, contributing to specifications, tender documentation and the assessment of proposals within agreed procedures.\nMonitoring construction progress and quality, attending site meetings, reviewing reports and addressing issues that could affect delivery.\nManaging project risks, issues and changes, assessing their impact on cost, timescales and quality, and securing appropriate approvals.\nMaintaining oversight of project safety arrangements, working with appointed specialists and escalating concerns through the appropriate channels.\nProviding clear progress reports and recommendations, keeping senior colleagues and stakeholders informed of performance, decisions and required actions.\nCoordinating completion and handover activities, including inspections, outstanding defects, operational information and relevant project documentation.\nMaintaining accurate project records and capturing lessons learned, supporting effective governance and improvements to future delivery.\nRequirements\nWe're looking for a proactive, organised and commercially aware construction professional with experience leading projects and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a demanding delivery environment.\nYou'll ideally have:\nExperience managing construction projects at a senior level, including responsibility for programmes, budgets, quality and delivery.\nStrong knowledge of construction processes and building works, with the ability to identify practical solutions to technical and operational challenges.\nExperience coordinating contractors, consultants and design teams, holding parties accountable for agreed actions and deadlines.\nExperience managing project budgets, forecasts and change control, with a clear understanding of cost pressures and financial reporting.\nKnowledge of construction procurement and contract administration, including monitoring performance against agreed requirements.\nExperience identifying and managing project risks, resolving issues and escalating matters appropriately.\nStrong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly and manage competing expectations.\nAwareness of construction health and safety responsibilities, with the judgement to seek specialist advice where required.\nGood organisational and IT skills, including confidence using project planning tools, spreadsheets and reporting systems.\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining momentum across several activities and priorities.\nEligibility to work in the UK and the ability to provide employment references and complete the required pre-employment checks.\nWhy Apply\nOpportunity to contribute to the delivery of council construction projects.\nVaried senior role combining project leadership, commercial oversight and site coordination.\nChance to work with multidisciplinary teams, contractors and council stakeholders.\nOpportunity to apply your construction project management expertise within a local authority setting.\nBenefits\nWeekly Pay\nCompany Pension\nOngoing Agency Support\nBenefits are subject to confirmation of agency and payroll arrangements and individual eligibility.\nAdditional Information\nClient: Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council\nLocation: Riverside House, Main Street, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, S60 1AE\nWorking Arrangement: Office attendance, site visits and any hybrid-working arrangements are to be confirmed.\nOriginal Target Start Date: 19 October 2026 - this date has passed;
