Maintenance and Improvement of Council Buildings\nWe're recruiting an experienced Building Surveyor (Engineering and Surveying) to join North West Leicestershire District Council, providing professional surveying expertise across building maintenance, refurbishment, compliance, and property improvement projects.\nThis is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Building Surveyor with a strong background in property inspections, building defects, planned and reactive maintenance, contract administration, refurbishment projects, specifications, and building compliance.\nYou'll work closely with internal Council teams, contractors, consultants, tenants, and other stakeholders to ensure buildings are safe, compliant, well maintained, and managed effectively.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Building Surveyor, you'll provide professional and technical surveying support across a varied property portfolio.\nYou'll undertake inspections, diagnose defects, develop specifications and schedules of work, manage contractors, and support the delivery of maintenance and improvement projects from initial assessment through to completion.\nWhat you'll be doing:\nUndertaking building inspections and condition surveys across Council-owned properties\nInvestigating and diagnosing building defects and recommending appropriate remedial works\nPreparing specifications, schedules of work, drawings, and tender documentation\nManaging planned and reactive maintenance projects\nSupporting refurbishment, repair, and improvement programmes\nAdministering building contracts and monitoring contractor performance\nManaging projects from initial inspection through to completion\nMonitoring project budgets, programmes, quality, and delivery\nCarrying out site inspections to ensure work meets required standards\nAssessing contractor quotations and tender submissions\nProviding professional building surveying advice to colleagues and stakeholders\nManaging defects, repairs, and maintenance issues across a varied property portfolio\nEnsuring works comply with Building Regulations, health and safety requirements, and relevant legislation\nSupporting statutory compliance activity across Council buildings\nPreparing technical reports, recommendations, and condition assessments\nIdentifying maintenance priorities and contributing to planned maintenance programmes\nWorking closely with contractors, consultants, engineers, and other property professionals\nMonitoring contractor health and safety performance and ensuring appropriate documentation is maintained\nSupporting procurement and appointment of contractors and consultants\nManaging variations, valuations, and project costs where required\nMaintaining accurate project, property, and inspection records\nResponding to urgent building or maintenance issues where necessary\nSupporting the effective management of property-related risks\nManaging multiple projects and competing priorities within agreed deadlines and budgets\nRequirements\nWe're looking for a technically strong, organised, and experienced Building Surveyor who is confident managing projects and providing professional advice across a varied property portfolio.\nYou'll ideally have:\nSignificant experience working as a Building Surveyor or within a similar property role\nExperience undertaking building inspections and condition surveys\nStrong knowledge of building construction and common building defects\nExperience diagnosing defects and recommending remedial solutions\nExperience preparing specifications and schedules of work\nExperience managing planned and reactive maintenance projects\nExperience with refurbishment and property improvement projects\nStrong contract administration experience\nExperience managing contractors and monitoring works on site\nKnowledge of Building Regulations and relevant construction legislation\nGood understanding of health and safety requirements within construction and property management\nKnowledge of CDM Regulations would be advantageous\nExperience monitoring project budgets and expenditure\nStrong technical report-writing skills\nAbility to interpret drawings, specifications, surveys, and technical documentation\nStrong communication and stakeholder-management skills\nAbility to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines\nExperience within local government, social housing, or the wider public sector would be advantageous\nRelevant qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, Property, or a related discipline\nRICS or CIOB membership
