Lead the Delivery of Projects That Support Council Services
We're recruiting an experienced Senior Project Manager (Interim) to support Bradford Metropolitan District Council with the planning, coordination, and delivery of projects.
This role offers an opportunity for an organised and delivery-focused professional to lead project activity, work with a range of stakeholders, and help ensure agreed objectives are achieved within the required timescales and budgets.
You'll work closely with service leads, project teams, senior managers, and relevant delivery partners, providing clear direction, maintaining effective project controls, and supporting informed decision-making.
About the Role
As Senior Project Manager (Interim), you'll take responsibility for progressing assigned projects, coordinating resources, managing risks, and keeping stakeholders informed.
You'll bring a structured and practical approach to delivery, helping teams overcome challenges, manage competing priorities, and achieve agreed outcomes. As an interim professional, you'll be comfortable establishing priorities quickly and ensuring a clear handover at the end of the assignment.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading project planning and delivery, establishing clear objectives, scope, milestones, responsibilities, and delivery plans.
- Monitoring budgets, resources, and progress, identifying potential delays or overspends and coordinating corrective action.
- Managing risks, issues, and dependencies, maintaining accurate records and escalating matters requiring senior decisions.
- Working with senior managers, service leads, and delivery partners to agree priorities, resolve challenges, and maintain momentum.
- Coordinating project teams and contributors, ensuring responsibilities are understood and actions are completed within agreed deadlines.
- Preparing project reports and governance documentation, providing clear updates on progress, finances, risks, and decisions required.
- Managing changes to project scope and delivery plans, assessing their impact and securing the appropriate approvals.
- Supporting project completion and handover, documenting outcomes, outstanding actions, lessons learned, and arrangements for ongoing ownership.
Requirements
We're looking for a proactive, organised, and experienced project management professional with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
You'll be able to work independently, build effective relationships, and provide clear direction in a busy environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience managing complex projects, with a track record of delivering agreed outcomes against deadlines and budgets.
- Experience working within a local authority, public-sector organisation, or similarly complex environment.
- Strong knowledge of project management methods and controls, including planning, governance, risk management, change control, and reporting.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and influencing stakeholders with different priorities.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including the ability to monitor budgets, assess delivery information, and recommend practical action.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and explain complex information to different audiences.
- A relevant project management qualification, such as PRINCE2 or an APM qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
- The ability to establish priorities quickly, manage competing demands, and maintain effective delivery throughout a short-term assignment.
Applicants should have the right to work in the UK, be available for the stated contract period, and be able to provide references and complete the relevant pre-employment checks.
