Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Maintenance Technician to support the operation, reliability, and continuous improvement of our manufacturing equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining CNC machine tools including lathes, mills, chuckers, and Swiss-style equipment.
This position is responsible for diagnosing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system issues while performing both corrective and preventive maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
CNC Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Troubleshoot and repair CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, chuckers, and Swiss-type machines.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, spindle, and control system failures.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, machine documentation, and technical drawings.
- Rebuild, modify, and repair manufacturing equipment as required.
- Perform I/O level troubleshooting using machine diagnostics and electrical prints.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance activities on CNC and production equipment.
- Document maintenance activities using CMMS or maintenance tracking systems.
- Perform machine alignments, calibrations, and equipment performance verification.
- Maintain records to support reliability improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
Equipment Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring machine failures and recommend permanent corrective solutions.
- Support equipment upgrades, retrofits, and new equipment installations.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and OEM service providers to resolve equipment issues.
- Assist in developing and improving maintenance procedures and standards.
Technical Support & Teamwork
- Train operators and maintenance personnel on proper equipment operation and maintenance practices.
- Source replacement parts and work with equipment manufacturers when required.
- Participate in overtime, emergency repairs, and on-call support as needed.
- Maintain safe work practices and comply with all company policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on maintenance experience on CNC machine tools in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting machine controls, servo systems, motors, sensors, and industrial electrical systems.
- Experience performing repairs on CNC lathes, mills, machining centers, or Swiss-style equipment.
- Proven ability to diagnose equipment issues independently and drive repairs to completion.
Technical Skills
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills including:
- 24VDC control circuits
- Motors and motor controls
- VFDs
- Relays and contactors
- Sensors and safety circuits
- Ability to troubleshoot machine faults at the PLC and I/O level.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and machine documentation.
- Experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, calibration tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience utilizing CMMS or maintenance management software.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to utilize machine diagnostics and maintenance tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical field.
- Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Okuma, Mazak, Citizen, Tsugami, or Haas control experience.
- Experience maintaining Swiss-type CNC machines.
- PLC troubleshooting experience.
- Forklift certification.
- Experience supporting lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
