This individual will play a critical role in driving system-level innovation, translating customer and industry requirements into product specifications, and leading cross-functional teams through product development, qualification, and deployment.\nThe ideal candidate possesses expertise in optical communications, coherent or direct-detect optical systems, DSP architectures, electrical and optical interfaces, and emerging data center networking standards. This role requires both technical leadership and strong collaboration across silicon, optics, packaging, firmware, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.\nAs a Principal Systems Engineer, you will define the architecture and technical direction of next-generation optical interconnect solutions, enabling the massive bandwidth demands of AI clusters and hyperscale data centers. Your work will directly influence product strategy, industry standards, and the future of high-speed optical networking.\nWhat will you do? -\nDefine system requirements and product architecture for next-generation optical transceivers.\n\nDevelop transceiver specifications, link budgets, performance targets, and system trade-off analyses.\n\nLead architecture decisions involving optical engines, DSPs, laser technologies, packaging, thermal management, and host electrical interfaces.\n\nEvaluate various modulation schemes, lane rates, and optical interconnect architectures to optimize performance, power, cost, and manufacturability.\n\nServe as the technical lead transceiver product development, influencing technology roadmaps and strategic investments.\n\nMentor engineers across systems, optics, hardware, firmware, and validation disciplines.\n\nDrive design reviews and resolve complex cross-functional technical issues.\n\nRepresent the company in customer engagements and industry technical discussions.\n\nOptical and Electrical System Analysis, including Define and analyze optical link performance, Link budgets/ Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)/ BER/FEC performance/ Power consumption, and Reliability margins\n\nPerform system-level modeling and simulation of optical and electrical channels.\n\nAnalyze and optimize high-speed interfaces operating at 200G/lane and beyond.\n\nWork closely with DSP and ASIC teams to define equalization, FEC, and signal integrity requirements.\n\nProduct Development & Validation, including Collaborate with optics, ASIC, packaging, firmware, and operations teams from concept through production release.\n\nDefine validation methodologies and interoperability test plans.\n\nDrive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for system-level performance issues.\n\nSupport customer qualifications, field deployments, and technical escalations\n\nHow will you get here? -\nEducation:\nBS degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field is required\n\nExperience:\n12+ years of experience in optical communications, networking systems, or transceiver development is required\n\nDemonstrated experience developing high-speed optical modules is required\n\nKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:\nStrong understanding of:\n\nOptical communication systems\n\nSilicon photonics\n\nHigh-speed SerDes architectures\n\nDSP-based communication systems\n\nFEC and coding techniques\n\nExperience with optical standards and interoperability requirements\n\nStrong analytical and system-level problem-solving capabilities\n\nExcellent written, verbal, and presentation skills\n\nSystems thinking and architecture leadership\n\nCross-functional collaboration; Customer engagement; Strategic technology planning; Data-driven decision making; Mentoring and team development\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nMS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, is preferred\n\nPrior experience with:\n1.6T PAM4 optical modules\n\nCo-packaged optics (CPO)\n\nLinear Receive Optics (LRO)\n\nLinear Pluggable Optics (LPO)\n\nSilicon photonics integration\n\nAdvanced packaging technologies\n\nExpertise in coding for test and verification in languages such as Python or other, preferably\n\nProven record of technical leadership and architectural ownership of complex products is a plus\n\nBE AWARE OF FRAUD: When applying for a job at Jabil you will be contacted via correspondence through our official job portal with a jabil.com e-mail address; direct phone call from a member of the Jabil team; or direct e-mail with a jabil.com e-mail address.
