Resident Quality Engineer based onsite in Lewisville, TX
The Resident Quality Engineer serves as the primary on-site quality representative for a major consumer electronics customer, acting as the key liaison between the customer and the manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for protecting customer satisfaction through rapid issue response, effective containment, clear communication, and timely resolution of quality concerns.
Working closely with operations, engineering, quality, and customer teams, the Resident Quality Engineer ensures manufacturing issues are escalated appropriately, corrective actions are implemented, and customer expectations are consistently met.
What can you expect to do?
- Serve as the primary quality and technical interface between the customer and manufacturing site.
- Respond quickly to customer concerns involving product quality, performance, or delivery issues.
- Investigate customer-reported defects and assess potential impact on production and customer operations.
- Communicate issue status, containment activities, corrective actions, and recovery plans to both the customer and internal teams.
- Evaluate field failures and customer-reported quality issues to determine severity, risk, and required response.
- Lead initial root cause investigations and coordinate escalation to the appropriate cross-functional teams.
- Ensure defective samples, supporting data, and relevant evidence are returned to the manufacturing site within 24 hours of issue notification.
- Drive immediate containment actions to prevent further customer impact.
- Provide regular status updates to both customer and factory leadership throughout the resolution process.
- Coordinate and perform product inspections, sorting activities, rework, and containment efforts at the customer site.
- Manage and oversee third-party sorting providers when required.
- Verify the effectiveness of containment activities and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Track customer complaints, corrective actions, nonconformance data, and sorting results.
- Ensure alignment and correlation of inspection methods between the customer site and manufacturing facility.
- Provide technical support and guidance on customer quality issues.
- Support customer-specific quality initiatives and training programs as needed.
- Assist with process improvement, corrective action, and continuous improvement efforts focused on defect prevention and operational excellence.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to drive consistency and standardization across customer programs.
- Interface effectively with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Customer Service teams to support issue resolution.
- Adhere to all company safety, security, and quality policies and procedures.
What is the experience needed to be successful in this role?
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Customer Quality, Supplier Quality, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience supporting customers within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading product inspections, containment activities, corrective actions, and root cause investigations.
- Working knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including:
- 8D
- 5 Why Analysis
- Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagrams
- FMEA
- SPC
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality management systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and reporting tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- Experience supporting consumer electronics manufacturing programs.
- Experience working directly at a customer site in a Resident Engineer or Customer Quality role.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and other applicable quality standards.
