Our commitment extends beyond business success as we strive to build sustainable processes that minimize environmental impact and foster vibrant and diverse communities around the globe.About the Role\nWe are seeking an experienced and self-driven OpenBMC Engineer to join our firmware and system software team.\nIn this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining BMC firmware for server platforms, working closely with hardware, system, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality BMC solutions throughout the full server lifecycle.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign, develop, maintain, and debug BMC firmware based on server hardware architecture and system design requirements.\nPerform high-level and low-level design, implementation, and integration of new BMC features and system enhancements.\nLead or contribute as a platform owner or domain expert, providing technical guidance and mentoring to team members.\nCollaborate with hardware, BIOS, and system teams to bring up and port OpenBMC on custom server platforms.\nParticipate in system integration, validation, and issue root-cause analysis across the full server development cycle.\nRequired Qualifications\nHands-on experience with BMC development or open-source BMC solutions (e.g., OpenBMC).\nStrong C/C++ programming skills, with solid software design principles and code tracing/debugging capabilities.\nGood understanding of Linux operating system architecture, including kernel and user-space applications.\nSolid knowledge of low-level hardware protocols, including: I2C, PMBus, SPI, UART, JTAG, GPIO.\nStrong understanding of IPMI 2.0 and DCMI 1.5, including: IPMI Messaging, SDR, SEL, FRU, SOL, IPMB, LAN, KCS, Event Log, PEF, ME, NM, PECI.\nAbility to independently port BMC firmware to custom hardware platforms or implement platform-specific algorithms.\nExperience participating in at least one complete server project lifecycle (from bring-up to production).\nExperience with Redfish, WebUI, or Linux kernel development.\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience acting as a technical lead, platform owner, or domain expert in BMC-related projects.\nFamiliarity with server hardware bring-up, manufacturing diagnostics, or system validation.\nExperience with scripting languages such as Python or Shell for automation or debugging.\nExperience working in Agile or cross-functional development environments.\nStrong documentation and technical communication skills.\nPersonal Attributes\nPassionate about coding, debugging, and learning new technologies.\nPragmatic, open-minded, and solution-oriented.\nPatient, responsible, and enthusiastic about engineering work.\nStrong logical thinking and communication skills.\nA team player with a willingness to mentor others and contribute beyond individual tasks.\nBE AWARE OF FRAUD: When applying for a job at Jabil you will be contacted via correspondence through our official job portal with a jabil.com e-mail address; direct phone call from a member of the Jabil team; or direct e-mail with a jabil.com e-mail address.
