You will be the company's primary in-house legal advisor, serve as its designated Compliance Officer, own our relationships with state regulators and lottery commissions, and lead our government affairs efforts as we grow into new states and products. Jackpot.com operates primarily in the US, with a UK holding company and affiliates in Malta and Serbia. As the group's legal officer, you will oversee legal matters across all entities, working with local counsel outside the US.\nReporting to the Chief Strategy & Data Officer, you will work closely with the executive team, growth, product, marketing, finance, and operations. This role suits someone with a startup mentality who moves quickly, takes ownership, and looks for practical ways to get to yes. We also want someone who embraces AI and is excited to use it to help a lean legal team do more.\nWhile this is a remote position, you must be located or willing to relocate to the NYC metro area to qualify. \nWHAT YOU'LL DO:\nCorporate Oversight and Governance\nOversee corporate governance and entity management across the group (US, UK, Malta, and Serbia), including board and committee materials, statutory filings, corporate records, resolutions, and intercompany agreements, working with local counsel and corporate service providers.\nMaintain the company's licensing portfolio across all operating jurisdictions, including applications, renewals, ongoing reporting obligations, and suitability filings covering the company, its UK parent, and their directors and significant shareholders.\nAs the designated Compliance Officer, build and maintain a compliance framework covering age and identity verification, geolocation, responsible gaming, AML/KYC, anti-bribery and corruption, data privacy and cross-border data transfers, and consumer protection.\nDevelop and update internal policies, and lead training so teams understand and follow them.\nManage outside counsel relationships and legal budget, ensuring high-quality work at a reasonable cost.\nManage equity and capitalization matters, including the cap table, equity incentive plan and grants, 409A valuations, and investor rights and consents under our financing documents.\nSupport corporate transactions, financings, and strategic partnerships, including due diligence.\nDay-to-Day Legal Advisory\nServe as the go-to legal partner for all internal teams, providing practical, business-minded guidance.\nDraft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including retail and distribution partnerships, vendor and SaaS agreements, marketing and affiliate agreements, NDAs, and data processing agreements.\nReview marketing, promotional, and sweepstakes materials for compliance with state lottery rules, advertising regulations, and consumer protection laws.\nAdvise on product launches and feature changes, with particular attention to new verticals and jurisdiction-specific requirements.\nOwn the company's Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and player-facing disclosures.\nManage disputes, player complaints escalated for legal review, and litigation with support from outside counsel.\nAdvise on employment matters in the US, Malta, and Serbia, in partnership with HR and local counsel.\nUse AI tools to speed up contract review, legal research, and regulatory monitoring, and help set guidelines for responsible AI use across the company.\nGovernment Affairs and Regulatory Relations\nServe as the company's primary point of contact with state lottery commissions, gaming regulators, and other relevant agencies.\nMonitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments affecting lottery courier services, iLottery, gaming, and adjacent products, and translate them into clear business implications and recommendations.\nDevelop and execute a government affairs strategy to protect existing markets and support expansion into new states.\nRepresent the company in regulatory meetings, public comment processes, hearings, and industry associations.\nBuild constructive, long-term relationships with regulators, legislators, and policy stakeholders.\nManage lobbyists and government affairs consultants where engaged.\nYOU HAVE:\nJ.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.\n5+ years of legal experience, including meaningful time in-house, ideally in lottery, gaming, fintech, payments, or another highly regulated consumer industry.\nDirect experience with state-level licensing and working alongside regulators.\nStrong commercial contracting skills and the judgment to balance legal risk with business goals.\nExcellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to non-lawyers.\nA startup mentality: comfort with ambiguity, a bias toward action, and a willingness to work independently in a fast-growing company with a lean legal function.\nEnthusiasm for AI and hands-on experience using AI tools in your own legal work.\nIT'S A BONUS IF YOU HAVE:\nExperience with lottery, iLottery, sports betting, iGaming, or other emerging gaming products.\nExperience in government affairs, public policy, or legislative strategy.\nFamiliarity with AML/KYC, responsible gaming, and consumer data privacy frameworks, including US state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA), GDPR, and UK GDPR.\nExisting relationships with state lottery or gaming regulators.\nExperience as in-house counsel for a US business with a foreign parent or international affiliates.\nComfort managing non-US entities and employees through local counsel.\nABOUT YOU:\nYou are described to be quantitative and analytical.
