As a senior technical authority, you will define architectural standards, guide complex implementations, and help ensure that the systems we deliver are scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable in production environments.\nLocation\nFully Remote / European Residence required OR LATAM Residence\nCompensation\nSalary\nWork Schedule\nFull time / Flexible working hours\nReports to\nHead of Engineering\nMember of\nEngineering Team\nKey Responsibilities:\nArchitecture & System Design\nDesign end-to-end architectures for enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and distributed backend systems.\n\nDefine system-level architectures spanning services, APIs, integrations, and data stores.\n\nEnsure high availability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency across the systems you design.\n\nMake and document architectural decisions, including trade-off analysis and technology selection.\n\nPlatform & Cloud Engineering\nArchitect cloud-native and hybrid solutions across compute, networking, storage, and identity.\n\nDesign data flows and integration patterns, including event-driven and streaming architectures.\n\nDefine approaches to CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and operational readiness.\n\nGuide modernization and migration of legacy systems toward maintainable, scalable architectures.\n\nTechnical Leadership\nProvide architectural leadership to engineering teams delivering client projects.\n\nEstablish best practices for system design, security, integration, observability, and reliability.\n\nConduct architecture and design reviews, and mentor engineers on building scalable software systems.\n\nCross-Team Collaboration\nWork closely with backend engineers, data engineers, frontend engineers, and DevOps teams to design cohesive solutions.\n\nPartner with client stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical architectures.\n\nHelp guide technical decisions and scoping during project planning and delivery.\n\nInnovation & Thought Leadership\nStay current with advancements in distributed systems, cloud platforms, and software architecture.\n\nIdentify opportunities to improve the scalability, resilience, and efficiency of systems across projects.\n\nContribute to internal knowledge sharing and architectural standards across Janea's engineering teams.\n\nTo be considered for this position, you must have the following qualifications:\n10+ years of experience in software engineering, distributed systems, or backend architecture.\n\n5+ years in an architect or senior technical leadership capacity, owning system design end to end.\n\nExperience working in client-facing consulting or professional services environments designing enterprise-scale systems.\n\nExperience supporting pre-sales work: solution shaping, technical proposals, and delivery estimation.\n\nStrong experience architecting large-scale, production-grade software systems.\n\nDeep understanding of microservices, distributed systems, API design, and integration patterns.\n\nStrong programming experience in Python, Java, C#, C++, or similar languages.\n\nExperience designing systems in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).\n\nExperience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.\n\nStrong understanding of data modeling, data pipelines, and relational and non-relational data stores.\n\nWorking knowledge of security, performance, observability, and cost as first-class architectural concerns.\n\nExcellent system design, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.\n\nStrong written and spoken English communication skills.\n\nDegree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.\n\nIdeal candidates will also have:\nExperience modernizing or replatforming legacy systems in large enterprises.\n\nExperience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi) and platform engineering practices.\n\nExperience designing systems under regulatory or compliance constraints (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI DSS).\n\nExperience with high-throughput or low-latency systems, or systems-level and native engineering.\n\nRelevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent).\n\nWhy join Janea?
