They guide how we serve our employees, passengers, communities, and partners every day.\nThe Transit Operator (CDL) safely operates Jaunt vehicles while providing reliable, courteous, and customer-focused transportation services throughout Central Virginia. This position is responsible for transporting passengers in accordance with established routes and schedules, assisting passengers as needed, performing required vehicle inspections, and complying with all applicable safety regulations and organizational policies.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nTransportation Operations\nSafely operate Jaunt vehicles in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws, organizational policies, and defensive driving practices.\nProvide safe, timely, and reliable transportation services while maintaining assigned routes and schedules.\nAdapt to changing traffic conditions, weather, construction, detours, and other operational challenges.\nOperate vehicles in a manner that promotes passenger comfort, safety, and confidence.\nCustomer Service\nDeliver courteous, professional, and respectful service to passengers and the public.\nAssist passengers with boarding, exiting, securement of mobility devices, packages, and other reasonable transportation needs.\nCommunicate clearly with passengers regarding schedules, stops, delays, and service information.\nMaintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all passengers.\nVehicle Safety and Compliance\nConduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical defects or safety concerns.\nMaintain vehicle cleanliness and report maintenance issues in accordance with organizational procedures.\nComply with all DOT, FTA, ADA, and organizational safety requirements.\nParticipate in required safety meetings, training, and certification programs.\nCommunication and Documentation\nMaintain effective communication with dispatch, supervisors, and other operational staff.\nReport accidents, incidents, mechanical issues, passenger concerns, and service disruptions promptly.\nComplete required reports, inspections, manifests, and other operational documentation accurately and on time.\nOperational Support\nDemonstrate flexibility in work assignments, schedules, weekends, holidays, and emergency operations as needed.\nSupport organizational initiatives and special assignments as directed.\nPerform other related duties as assigned.\nRequirements\nQUALIFICATIONS\nRequired Education and Experience\nHigh school diploma or GED.\nMust be at least 21 years of age.\nFive (5) years of driving experience preferred.\nValid Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement.\nDriving record that meets Jaunt's insurance requirements.\nPreferred Qualifications\nPrevious experience operating buses, paratransit vehicles, or commercial passenger vehicles.\nCPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification, or the ability to obtain required certifications within three (3) months of employment.\nExperience working with older adults and individuals with disabilities.\nExperience providing customer service in a public-facing environment.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES\nKnowledge of safe driving practices and applicable traffic laws.\nKnowledge of ADA requirements and passenger assistance techniques.\nAbility to safely operate commercial passenger vehicles in varying traffic and weather conditions.\nStrong customer service and communication skills.\nAbility to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during emergencies and difficult situations.\nAbility to complete required documentation accurately.\nAbility to work independently while maintaining communication with supervisors and dispatch.\nAbility to safely assist passengers and operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement equipment.\nSign-On Bonus of $2,500, paid as follows:\n$1,250 after successful completion of 3 months of employment\n$1,250 after successful completion of 9 months of employment\nWHY THIS ROLE MATTERS\nThe Transit Operator (CDL) serves as the face of Jaunt by providing safe, dependable, and customer-focused transportation services every day. Service. Connection.\nSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:\nEmployment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen and meeting Jaunt's driving record standards for insurance eligibility. Continued employment is contingent upon compliance with Jaunt's Substance Abuse Policy and maintaining a driving record that meets the organization's insurance requirements.\nAs a public transportation provider, Jaunt employees regularly interact with passengers of all abilities.
