We are 100% remote, but candidates must reside in and be authorized to work in Costa Rica.\nResponsibilities:\nDesign, build, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services across the stack.\n\nOwn production software throughout its lifecycle, driving complex initiatives independently from design through deployment and support.\n\nDevelop and maintain RESTful APIs, integrations, and backend services using Java and modern Java frameworks.\n\nWork with relational databases, SQL, data models, and application integrations to build reliable and maintainable solutions.\n\nEvaluate, refactor, and modernize existing applications to improve performance, scalability, maintainability, and reliability.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality software.\n\nDesign scalable distributed systems and service-oriented or microservice architectures.\n\nContribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, deployment, and production support.\n\nTroubleshoot complex technical issues across applications, APIs, integrations, databases, and supporting infrastructure.\n\nUse AI agents as part of the development workflow for design, planning, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation, and apply engineering judgment to validate and refine that work before it reaches production.\n\nDesign, build, and integrate AI agents and agentic workflows to automate engineering tasks and solve product challenges.\n\nQualifications:\n5+ years of professional software development experience with a primary focus on Java.\n\nHands-on experience with Open Liberty or a similar Java application server/runtime platform.\n\nStrong knowledge of Java, object-oriented programming, application architecture, and RESTful API development.\n\nExperience working with relational databases and SQL.\n\nExperience with enterprise applications, integrations, and distributed or microservice-based systems.\n\nExperience with software development practices including automated testing, source control, CI/CD, deployment, and production support.\n\nStrong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand and troubleshoot complex applications and technical dependencies.\n\nExperience with cloud platforms and related infrastructure.\n\nExperience modernizing or maintaining existing/legacy Java applications.\n\nExperience using AI-assisted development tools or AI agents as part of the software development lifecycle, with the ability to validate and refine AI-generated work before it reaches production.\n\nStrong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in an Agile, cross-functional environment.\n\nAbility to work independently, take ownership of complex initiatives, and continuously learn new technologies and engineering practices.\n\nBenefits:\nThis is a full-time position with the following benefits:\nCompetitive Base Salary - Great work deserves great pay.
