Inside our building, you’ll have access to amenities that make work-life balance easy, including an onsite Starbucks, a company dining hall with plenty of options, a free fitness center, and free parking!\nProgram Highlights:\n$25/hour compensation\nPaid PTO during H&R Block’s annual Reboot Week (June 28 - July 2)\nHousing stipend provided for students whose permanent address is more than 50 miles from the KC metro\nThroughout the 11-week internship, under the guidance of a leader, some of the internship responsibilities will include:\nResearch, gather and organize data to provide information for special projects or reports.\nWork closely with the QA, User Experience and other teams to ensure consistent understanding of requirements and approach.\nWrite, test, debug, and maintain code that supports real products and customer experiences\nInvestigate technical problems and collaborate with team members to identify and implement solutions\nParticipate in Agile team activities, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and other team ceremonies\nParticipate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to strengthen code quality and development practices\nLearn existing applications, systems, architecture, and development practices while contributing to an established codebase\nDesign, develop and maintain software components and products that support H&R Block business applications.\nUse tools, languages, coding standards and best practices to develop new product features and maintain year over year product functionality and enhancements.\nWork alongside experienced engineers while receiving ongoing coaching, feedback, and opportunities for technical development\nInterns will be provided with significant guidance and mentoring but will also be encouraged to work independently as well.\nThroughout the 11-week internship, as a part of the Embark program, interns will also participate in workshops and events that align with the program's four pillars:\nProfessional Development: includes the basics for a professional role, everything from using Microsoft Office to setting up a Teams meeting and giving a presentation.\nGiveback: involves participating in Make Every Block Better community service events. The goal is to teach the importance of community, make an impact, and provide bonding time for teams.\nNetworking: entails meeting various executives with offices at H&R Block’s headquarters, having lunch with directors and vice presidents, spending time with a mentor and getting to know people beyond their assigned department.\nConnected Culture: is meant to be fun and teach the importance of working hard and playing hard. H&R Block might take the interns to a Kansas City Royals game or facilitate other competitions meant to be fun or instill teamwork.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation:\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\nSeeking to obtain a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering, or some similar discipline with a GPA of 3.0 or above\nAbility to work as part of a diverse team and independently\nHighly motivated, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\nQuick learner and not afraid to work with new computer-based programs and databases\nAbility to be effective and contribute in a fast-paced corporate environment\nWork Experience:\nNo previous work experience necessary\nPreferred Qualifications\nFoundational knowledge of software development concepts, object-oriented programming, and the software development lifecycle (SDLC)\nExperience with or exposure to one or more programming languages, such as C#, .NET, Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar technologies\nFamiliarity with cloud technologies and development environments, particularly Microsoft Azure\nExposure to web services, APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, or cloud-native application development\nFamiliarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases, such as SQL Server or Cosmos DB\nInterest in mobile application development and native mobile experiences\nFamiliarity with source control, CI/CD, or development collaboration tools such as Git and Azure DevOps\nInterest in AI-first software engineering, including the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools\nExposure to or interest in Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), machine learning, AI agents, or AI-enabled application development\nWhy work for us\nAt H&R Block, our purpose is simple: to provide help and inspire confidence in our clients and communities everywhere.
