About the role

Build. Automate. Innovate. Help Shape the Future of Technology.

Are you someone who enjoys working in the cloud just as much as writing code? Do you thrive on solving complex technical challenges, automating processes, and developing applications that make a real difference?

At JMARK, we're looking for a Cloud Systems Administrator & Developer II to join our AI Operations team.

This unique position combines AWS cloud infrastructure administration with hands-on software development, giving you the opportunity to manage cloud environments, develop innovative applications, and contribute directly to JMARK's growing AI initiatives.

We're looking for someone who can confidently work across both infrastructure and development, take ownership of technical projects, and collaborate with a team that values innovation, continuous improvement, and delivering exceptional results.

If you enjoy building solutions rather than simply maintaining systems, this could be the opportunity for you.

What You'll Be Doing

Cloud Infrastructure & AWS Administration

  • Independently provision, configure, manage, and optimize AWS cloud resources, including EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable Terraform modules to automate infrastructure deployments and configurations.
  • Monitor cloud environments, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and ensure systems remain secure, reliable, and performing efficiently.
  • Implement cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, secrets management, and patching.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions.
  • Implement and test backup, redundancy, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cloud performance, optimize resource utilization, and reduce unnecessary costs.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline infrastructure and application deployments.

Software Development & AI Applications

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy new features and enhancements for JMARK's custom AI application.
  • Write clean, maintainable, production-quality Python code.
  • Design, build, and integrate RESTful APIs that connect applications, cloud services, and data sources.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application defects, performance issues, and integration challenges.
  • Work with SQL and/or NoSQL databases to support application functionality.
  • Participate in code reviews, maintain development standards, and help improve software quality.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into functional solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to use automation and AI technologies to improve operational efficiency.

Security, Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply secure coding practices and follow established software development lifecycle and change management processes.
  • Implement security controls aligned with NIST, CIS, and OWASP best practices.
  • Support secure application deployments, testing, monitoring, and production change management.
  • Maintain documentation for cloud infrastructure, application architecture, and operational processes.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and assist with after-hours maintenance or critical incidents as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure reliability, development processes, and overall operational efficiency.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Work independently on assigned projects while collaborating with other members of the AI Operations team.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Level I team members.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and share knowledge with teammates.
  • Take ownership of technical challenges and work toward effective, long-term solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging cloud technologies, DevOps practices, cybersecurity, and AI application development.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a technically capable problem solver who enjoys working across cloud infrastructure and software development.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience administering AWS cloud environments.
  • Proficiency with Terraform, including writing reusable modules and managing infrastructure state.
  • Strong Python programming skills with experience developing and maintaining production applications.
  • Experience designing, building, and integrating RESTful APIs.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with Git, version control, and software development workflows.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and DevOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, IAM, encryption, monitoring, and logging.
  • Intermediate Linux and/or Windows administration experience.
  • Solid networking knowledge, including DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancing.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and application issues.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, testing, and code reviews.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; relevant technical training or certifications; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Typically 3-4 years of combined experience in cloud administration and software development, or demonstrated equivalent technical competency.
  • Ability to independently manage technical responsibilities and deliver projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • A desire to continue learning, improving, and expanding technical expertise.

What Would Set You Apart?

While not required, experience in the following areas would be beneficial:

  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator.
  • HashiCorp Terraform certification.
  • Experience developing or supporting AI-powered applications.
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts or integrating AI services and APIs.
  • Experience with Python frameworks used for API or application development.
  • Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Experience implementing cloud cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and secure deployment practices.
  • Previous experience working for a Managed Services Provider (MSP).
  • Experience mentoring junior technical professionals or leading technical initiatives.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

At JMARK, we're looking for more than technical expertise. We want someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys helping others, and is committed to delivering exceptional results.

Successful team members in this role will:

  • Take ownership of projects and technical challenges from beginning to end.
  • Be comfortable making technical decisions and knowing when to collaborate or escalate.
  • Enjoy solving complex problems and finding ways to prevent them from happening again.
  • Have a passion for automation, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Balance technical innovation with security, reliability, and business needs.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Be willing to share knowledge and help develop other team members.
  • Approach challenges with curiosity, accountability, and a positive attitude.
