The ideal candidate has a strong background in chemical or process manufacturing, capital project management, and people leadership, with the ability to implement data-driven solutions and develop high-performing engineering teams.\n\nPosition Responsibilities\n\nEngineering Team Leadership\n\nLead, mentor, and develop engineering team members through coaching, performance management, and professional development.\n\nEstablish team goals and priorities aligned with manufacturing objectives.\n\nSupport succession planning and build engineering capabilities across the organization.\n\nProcess Improvement and Operational Excellence\n\nLead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other established methodologies.\n\nIdentify and implement solutions to improve safety, product quality, productivity, and operating costs.\n\nAnalyze manufacturing data to identify performance gaps and opportunities for improvement.\n\nApply automation and emerging technologies to optimize manufacturing processes.\n\nCapital Project Management\n\nPlan and oversee capital projects, including project scope, budgets, schedules, resource allocation, and execution.\n\nManage capital expenditures while ensuring projects meet operational requirements and financial objectives.\n\nCoordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful project delivery.\n\nCross-Functional Collaboration\n\nWork closely with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve complex manufacturing challenges.\n\nLead change management initiatives to support the implementation and long-term adoption of improvements.\n\nDevelop scalable engineering solutions that support consistent performance across manufacturing sites.\n\nSafety, Quality, and Compliance\n\nEnsure engineering activities comply with applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality requirements.\n\nSupport Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and risk-reduction initiatives.\n\nPromote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and workplace safety.\n\nPrerequisites\n\nBachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.\n\nAt least 7 years of engineering experience in chemical or process manufacturing environments.\n\nAt least 3 years of people leadership or supervisory experience.\n\nDemonstrated success leading process improvement initiatives with measurable results.\n\nExperience managing capital projects in a regulated manufacturing environment.\n\nKnowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.\n\nFamiliarity with PLC systems, such as Rockwell, SAP, and standard engineering software.\n\nStrong analytical, project management, communication, and leadership skills.\n\nAuthorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.\n\nCertifications (Preferred, but Not Required)\n\nSix Sigma Green Belt certification.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license.\n\nProject Management Professional (PMP) certification.\n\nAdditional training in process safety, operational excellence, or project management.\n\nWhat the Role Offers\n\nCompetitive annual salary ranging from $135,000 to $160,000, depending on experience and qualifications.\n\nAn opportunity to lead engineering initiatives across multiple manufacturing operations.\n\nThe ability to drive capital investment projects and meaningful operational improvements.\n\nOpportunities for professional development and engineering team growth.\n\nA leadership role with a direct impact on manufacturing safety, efficiency, quality, and business performance.\n\nWhy South Bend?\n\nSouth Bend offers a strong industrial and manufacturing environment, with access to engineering talent, technical resources, and regional supply chain networks.
