Based at Head Office on a work-from-home basis, the position includes regular travel to suppliers, consultants and mining sites across South Africa, with occasional international travel.\nJob Specification\nABOUT THE ROLE\n\nYou will play a central role in developing practical, high-performance solutions for complex mining and mineral residue environments. The position combines mechanical engineering, strategic project leadership, technical research and innovation, with a strong focus on progressing hydro mining capabilities.\nOffer\nKey responsibilities include\n\nLead concept studies for slurry and high-pressure water systems supporting hydro mining projects.\n\nManage specialist consultants through study, design and execution stages.\n\nReview existing pump and pipeline systems, identifying bottlenecks, optimisation opportunities and improvement measures.\n\nBuild specialist expertise in hydro mining through internal collaboration, external engagement and ongoing study.\n\nPlan, execute, monitor, control and close strategic projects across the business.\n\nManage project scope, teams, resources, budgets and delivery outcomes.\n\nCoordinate external consultants, suppliers and technical partners.\n\nDevelop business models and plans for new strategic initiatives.\n\nPrepare detailed project progress reports and communicate updates to EXCO and key stakeholders.\n\nBuild awareness of new initiatives across the business and support related marketing activities.\n\nIdentify project and operational risks, then develop practical engineering controls and mitigation measures.\n\nEvaluate control environments and recommend improvements to processes, systems and work practices.\n\nWork closely with mineral processing, tailings and operational teams to implement new approaches.\n\nResearch industry trends, emerging technologies and new opportunities.\n\nLead academic and other research projects from planning through to delivery.\n\nInvestigate, develop and operationalise new equipment and tailings deposition solutions.\n\nDevelop concept mechanical designs for reclamation, pumping and piping systems.\n\nSupport the commercial negotiation and formalisation of innovative solutions with suppliers, consultants and service providers.\n\nWHAT YOU'LL NEED\n\nBSc with Honours or BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering.\n\nFive to ten years’ relevant engineering experience.\n\nAt least five years’ experience in pump and pipeline design.\n\nStrong working knowledge of pumping and piping technical solutions.\n\nExcellent project management capability.\n\nStrong analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\n\nEffective time management, planning and organisational ability.\n\nThe ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining delivery focus.\n\nA flexible, collaborative approach to working with technical, operational and commercial stakeholders.\n\nMedical fitness to work on mining and project sites.\n\nFully compliant vaccinations, including the required yellow card and other site-specific vaccinations.\n\nNICE TO HAVE\n\nProject management experience or formal project management training.\n\nExperience in tailings management.\n\nExposure to hydro mining, mineral processing, tailings
