the PositionThe successful candidate will be responsible for supervising employees, ensuring production runs smoothly, maintaining health and safety standards, monitoring equipment and ensuring that all work is completed correctly and efficiently.\nKey Responsibilities\nProduction and Shift Management\nOversee daily production activities and ensure operations run smoothly\nCheck outstanding issues from the previous shift and ensure a proper handover to the next Supervisor\nMonitor production standards and ensure deviations are corrected\nEnsure employees complete their assigned duties correctly and efficiently\nCommunicate production issues and delays to management\nStaff SupervisionMonitor employee attendance and arrange alternative cover when necessary\nReport absenteeism, misconduct and poor performance to management\nConduct daily team meetings and toolbox talks\nEnsure employees understand their responsibilities and follow company procedures\nIdentify training needs and assist with on-the-job training\nParticipate in employee counselling when required\n Health and SafetyEnsure employees wear the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times\nEnforce health and safety rules and procedures\nParticipate in safety risk assessments and follow up on incidents\nEnsure employees follow the required safe working instructions for their tasks\nCheck that gas cutters have valid hot work permits and that their fire extinguishers are within their expiry dates\nEnsure safety incidents are documented and reported\nReport safety violations and hazards to management and the Health and Safety Department\nEquipment and HousekeepingInspect machinery, vehicles and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition\nEnsure daily housekeeping is maintained within the department\nMonitor maintenance activities and report equipment problems\nFollow up on requests for replacement parts and equipment\nEnsure inspections and checklists are completed and identified problems are addressed promptly\nAdministration and ReportingCollect and review employee checklists and update relevant reports\nEnsure production problems and non-conformances are corrected or escalated\nEnsure incident investigation forms are completed by the end of each shift\nMaintain proper communication and shift handovers between Supervisors\nMinimum RequirementsGrade 12 or equivalent\nA relevant Supervisory Certificate will be advantageous\nA valid forklift licence will be advantageous\nA valid excavator licence will be advantageous\nAbility to work accurately and independently\nGood attendance, disciplinary and timekeeping record\nMust be willing and available to work shifts, standby and overtime\n Skills and ExperienceSupervisory experience in a production or industrial environment\nGood communication and people management skills\nStrong health and safety awareness\nAbility to monitor production activities and maintain operational standards\nGood problem-solving and organisational skills\nAbility to identify issues and take appropriate corrective action\nGood attention to detail and recordkeeping\nExperience in steel manufacturing, furnace operations, foundries or similar heavy industrial environments will be
