The successful candidate will ensure compliance with national and international biosafety, biosecurity, engineering and occupational safety standards.\nKey Responsibilities\nOversee biosafety, biosecurity and engineering operations within high-containment laboratory facilities.\n\nLead technical teams responsible for laboratory design, construction, upgrades, maintenance and certification.\n\nDevelop and implement biosafety procedures, operational guidelines, emergency response plans and training programmes.\n\nManage capital expenditure and operational budgets for infrastructure, equipment and maintenance projects.\n\nOversee commissioning, inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, and annual facility certification.\n\nEnsure compliance with applicable biosafety, biosecurity and occupational health and safety standards.\n\nAdvise senior management on bio-risk management and facility safety, including the authority to stop unsafe work.\n\nImplement engineering maintenance policies and ensure the reliability of building systems and infrastructure.\n\nCoordinate engineering support for mobile containment laboratories during disease outbreaks and field deployments.\n\nMonitor emerging technologies and developments in biosafety and biosecurity.\n\nMinimum Requirements\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering (NQF Level 7).\n\nRecognised local and international training and certification in biosafety, biosecurity or related fields.\n\nAt least 7 years' post-qualification experience in the technical and managerial aspects of high-containment microbiological or biomedical laboratories.\n\nAt least 5 years' experience supervising or managing technical teams in a relevant laboratory
