In this contract role, you’ll design, deploy, secure, and automate API workflows across Google Cloud environments.
You’ll work extensively with Apigee X, GCP networking, API security, backend integrations, and multi-environment CI/CD pipelines.
Your expertise will help create reliable, scalable, and secure API platforms connecting diverse internal and external systems.
The role combines hands-on engineering, automation, troubleshooting, security, and operational excellence.

This is a focused, fully remote engagement suited to an experienced cloud and API engineering professional who can deliver quickly and independently.
Accountabilities
- Design, configure, and manage Apigee X API proxies, shared flows, target servers, environment groups, and related API management components.
- Configure and manage GCP networking infrastructure, including VPCs, Private Service Connect, load balancing, and Cloud Armor.
- Implement enterprise-grade API security using OAuth 2.0, JWT validation, mTLS, API keys, and custom authorization mechanisms.
- Manage API credentials, certificates, keys, and secrets securely using GCP Secret Manager, Apigee Key-Value Maps, or comparable solutions.
- Configure backend target servers, routing, TLS/mTLS connections, and certificate management across internal and external endpoints.
- Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for Apigee artifacts across development, staging, and production environments using Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Terraform, or similar tools.
- Conduct end-to-end API testing and use tracing and debugging tools to investigate request/response flows, latency issues, integration failures, and production incidents.
- Support API health, monitoring, and operational reliability through logging, alerting, performance analysis, and proactive troubleshooting.
- Where relevant, contribute to integrations involving enterprise financial or treasury platforms and automated operational workflows.
- Proven hands-on experience with Apigee X architecture, API proxies, shared flows, KVMs, target servers, and API management.
- Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform networking, particularly VPCs, Private Service Connect, load balancing, and related infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of API security protocols and mechanisms, including OAuth 2.0, JWT token validation, API key management, mTLS, and SSL/TLS.
- Practical experience with secrets and credential management using GCP Secret Manager, Apigee KVMs, HashiCorp Vault, or similar technologies.
- Hands-on expertise configuring backend integrations, target endpoints, TLS/mTLS connections, and certificates.
- Experience automating Apigee deployments across multiple environments using CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Cloud Build, or Terraform.
- Proficiency with API testing and debugging tools such as Postman, Bruno, curl, and native Apigee tracing capabilities.
- Experience configuring monitoring and observability using GCP Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, and operational alerting is advantageous.
- Experience with Google Apps Script for automated integrations or custom workflows is a plus.
- Exposure to enterprise financial systems or treasury platforms, such as APIs for financial management solutions, is desirable.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a contract environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with a strong focus on security, reliability, and delivery quality.
- Ability to work remotely from India and complete the engagement without visa sponsorship or transfer support.
