Backend Developer - Contract

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Developer - Contract based in India.

As a Backend Developer, you will join a collaborative engineering team for a four-month contract focused on building reliable, scalable backend solutions. You will design and develop Python-based services, RESTful APIs, and microservice architectures supporting modern cloud environments. The role offers hands-on exposure to Microsoft Azure, with opportunities to work across cloud deployment, automation, testing, and infrastructure. You will contribute throughout the development lifecycle, from architecture discussions and implementation to testing, deployment, and code reviews. Working in an Agile/Scrum environment, you will collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders in English. The position is well suited to a mid-to-senior backend engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and working with modern cloud-native technologies. Accountabilities:

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize robust backend services using Python.
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and microservices following modern backend engineering and architectural practices.
• Design, deploy, and manage cloud-based solutions primarily using Microsoft Azure, including services such as App Services, Functions, AKS, and Storage.
• Apply cloud architecture principles to improve application scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated testing workflows to support efficient and reliable software delivery.
• Develop, containerize, deploy, and operate applications using Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Collaborate with Agile/Scrum teams throughout planning, development, architecture discussions, and delivery activities.
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing and incorporating constructive technical feedback.
• Design and work with SQL and NoSQL databases, ensuring effective data modeling and application performance.
• Implement appropriate unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices to maintain software quality.
• Follow Git-based collaborative development workflows and contribute to clean, maintainable codebases.
• Apply security best practices across backend services, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and deployment processes.
• Investigate technical challenges and contribute to performance optimization, scalability improvements, and continuous engineering enhancements.

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience as a mid-to-senior Python Backend Developer, with a proven track record of delivering production software.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly services such as App Services, Azure Functions, AKS, and Storage. Equivalent experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) may also be considered.
• Professional experience with FastAPI and/or Django for building production-grade backend applications.
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and scalable microservice architectures.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and modern software delivery practices.
• Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including containerized application deployment and management.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases, data modeling, and database performance considerations.
• Understanding of cloud architecture patterns, scalability, availability, reliability, and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing methodologies.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative software development workflows, including code reviews and branching practices.
• Awareness of security best practices for backend applications, APIs, cloud services, and infrastructure.
• Strong English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with distributed, cross-functional teams.
• Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment and contributing to technical planning and architecture discussions.
• Experience with Databricks or other data engineering and big-data platforms is a strong advantage.
• Commercial experience with Golang is beneficial.
• Full-stack development experience, particularly with React, is a plus.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates is desirable.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or Azure Service Bus is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems proactively, and adapt quickly within a delivery-focused engineering environment.
