Design Lead (Expert)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Design Lead (Expert) based in Brazil.
This is a senior design leadership opportunity focused on shaping end-to-end digital experiences for a large-scale retail and e-commerce transformation.
You will define the UX/UI strategy across web and native mobile channels while creating a consistent, scalable design language.
The role combines design leadership, enterprise design-system governance, conversion optimization, and close collaboration with product and engineering teams.
You will influence critical customer journeys including checkout, product discovery, search, loyalty, and mobile experiences.
Working directly with stakeholders and designers, you will turn business objectives into user-centered solutions supported by research, testing, and data.
You will also mentor teams, establish quality standards, and ensure designs are technically feasible and ready for implementation.
This role is ideal for an experienced design leader who thrives in complex omnichannel environments and enjoys operating at both strategic and hands-on levels.
Accountabilities
Define and lead the overall UX/UI strategy across web and native mobile experiences, ensuring a consistent and unified design direction.
Establish and govern enterprise-level design-system tokens, components, interaction patterns, and shared libraries across platforms.
Oversee critical e-commerce journeys, including Single Page Checkout, Product Detail Pages, search and type-ahead experiences, cart flows, and loyalty features.
Partner with executives, product owners, engineering leaders, and other stakeholders to align business objectives with user-centered design decisions.
Facilitate workshops, design reviews, sprint planning, and other alignment activities across parallel design and product tracks.
Validate concepts through usability testing, research, and data-driven UX rationale.
Work directly in Figma and within the client design environment to support transparent collaboration and efficient co-creation.
Collaborate closely with designers and cross-functional teams, providing mentorship, design guidance, and quality oversight.
Deliver implementation-ready designs, annotated specifications, and clear handoffs to engineering teams.
Integrate advanced mobile-first and omnichannel patterns, including personalization, AI-assisted experiences, and store-companion functionality.
Ensure smooth knowledge transfer and continuity between design teams, minimizing friction during delivery and implementation.
8+ years of professional digital product design experience, including at least 3 years in a Lead, Principal, or comparable senior design role.
Proven experience leading design for complex e-commerce, retail, or omnichannel ecosystems.
Strong expertise in e-commerce conversion optimization, including checkout, product detail pages, cart, search, and other high-intent customer journeys.
Demonstrated ability to create, scale, and govern enterprise design systems using design tokens, reusable components, and shared pattern libraries across web and native mobile platforms.
Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including variables, auto-layout, advanced prototyping, component libraries, and developer handoff workflows.
Strong understanding of frontend capabilities and constraints across modern web storefronts and native mobile frameworks, including technologies such as Angular/Spartacus and Flutter.
Exceptional communication, presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution and attention to design quality.
Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, product teams, engineers, executives, and client stakeholders.
Experience with AI-assisted UX patterns, such as AI-powered recommendations or personalization, is an advantage.
Experience with omnichannel retail experiences, store-companion solutions, or Buy Online, Pick Up in Store (BOPIS) is a plus.
