This role offers the opportunity to build, maintain, secure, and support modern applications serving a federal customer. You will work as a cross-functional engineer within an Agile development environment, contributing to both new products and established applications. The position combines full-stack development with cloud-native engineering, microservices, security, testing, and operational support. You will work extensively with AWS technologies and open-source tools while delivering reliable, maintainable, high-quality software. Collaboration is central to the role, with regular interaction across engineering teams and customer stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, recommend improvements, and continuously strengthen development practices. Accountabilities
- Develop, maintain, secure, and provide operational support for new and existing applications within an Agile federal program.
- Build open-source, microservices-based applications using cloud-native technologies in an AWS environment.
- Design, implement, and maintain high-quality, reliable, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
- Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests for new and modified code.
- Work with databases and data services including PostgreSQL, Oracle RDS, and DynamoDB.
- Leverage technologies such as AWS EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, Docker, Kubernetes, Redis, Swagger, and application monitoring platforms.
- Contribute to application design, technical discussions, development planning, estimation, refinement, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and help the team continuously improve its development and delivery practices.
- Collaborate with customer stakeholders and internal team members to understand requirements, solve technical challenges, and deliver valuable solutions.
- Explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Evaluate existing applications and provide practical recommendations for improving functionality, reliability, maintainability, security, and performance.
- Take ownership of assigned commitments while proactively communicating progress, risks, dependencies, and potential improvements.
- Participate in operational support and on-call responsibilities when required.
- U.S. citizenship, current residence in the United States, and residence within the U.S. for at least three of the past five years.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance; existing Public Trust clearance is preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant professional software development experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 2+ years of experience developing applications for enterprise business customers.
- 2+ years of experience working in an Agile development environment, preferably Scrum or SAFe.
- Experience with several programming languages and frameworks such as Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, Ruby, Rails, ReactJS, Swift, Python/Anaconda, or Scala.
- Experience with several cloud and development platforms including AWS EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, Docker, Kubernetes, Swagger, Redis, or New Relic.
- Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle RDS, and DynamoDB.
- Strong understanding of unit and integration testing practices and a commitment to maintaining test coverage for new and modified code.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with engineers, customers, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide constructive recommendations for improving software applications.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to participate in planning, refinement, estimation, design, technical demonstrations, and retrospectives.
- Strong ownership, problem-solving, adaptability, and continuous-improvement mindset.
- Ability to consistently work East Coast core hours from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with up to two hours of flexibility earlier or later as needed, for a total of 40 hours per week.
- Willingness to provide periodic flexibility and participate in on-call support when required.
