This freelance opportunity is ideal for a German translator who wants to apply language expertise to the development of next-generation AI systems.

You will evaluate and refine AI-generated translations between German and English, focusing on accuracy, fluency, context, and cultural nuance.

Your linguistic judgment will help identify model weaknesses across idiomatic expressions, ambiguous language, and different communication styles.

You will combine translation, annotation, analysis, and feedback to improve the quality and consistency of AI-generated language.

The project offers exposure to emerging AI technologies while allowing you to contribute directly to the development of more capable multilingual systems.

Your ability to clearly explain translation decisions will be essential in helping models understand language beyond literal word-for-word conversion.

This is a flexible, remote contract opportunity suited to language professionals, linguists, localization specialists, and experienced translators.

Accountabilities:

• Evaluate and edit AI-generated translations between German and English, ensuring grammatical accuracy, natural fluency, and appropriate meaning.
• Translate content between German and English in both directions while maintaining context, tone, intent, and cultural relevance.
• Assess AI outputs for linguistic errors, awkward phrasing, mistranslations, inconsistencies, and failures to capture contextual meaning.
• Challenge AI models using idiomatic expressions, ambiguous phrases, formal and informal language, and realistic communication scenarios.
• Annotate translation errors and document model weaknesses in a clear and structured manner.
• Provide cultural and contextual explanations to help improve the model’s understanding of language and communication nuances.
• Suggest improvements to prompts, evaluation approaches, and model behavior based on observed translation patterns and recurring issues.
• Apply professional translation judgment consistently across a variety of content types and real-world language scenarios.
• Clearly communicate the reasoning behind translation choices and recommendations to support effective AI training and evaluation.

Requirements:

• Strong professional command of both German and English, with the ability to translate accurately and naturally between the two languages.
• Background or professional experience in translation, linguistics, localization, language education, or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of German grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, cultural nuances, and variations in tone and register.
• Excellent ability to evaluate language for grammatical accuracy, fluency, contextual appropriateness, and cultural sensitivity.
• Strong written communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate the reasoning behind linguistic decisions.
• Analytical and reflective approach to identifying language-model errors and explaining why a translation may be inaccurate or unnatural.
• Experience with technical, literary, media, or other specialized translation is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently, follow detailed guidelines, and maintain consistency across repeated evaluation tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality linguistic assessments.
• Interest in artificial intelligence and enthusiasm for contributing to the development of multilingual AI systems.
