Lead Mobile Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Mobile Engineer based in India.

This is a 50/50 hands-on leadership opportunity combining software development with people management and technical direction.

You will lead up to two engineering streams while remaining actively involved in designing, building, and reviewing production software.

The role spans mobile, frontend, backend, cloud, and modern engineering practices, giving you broad influence over technology and delivery.

You will shape architecture, engineering standards, security, CI/CD, code quality, and operational excellence across your teams.

A major focus will be developing engineers through coaching, feedback, performance management, and purposeful technical leadership.

You will also champion AI-enabled development practices, helping teams adopt modern AI tools across coding, testing, documentation, reviews, and troubleshooting.

Working within globally distributed Agile teams, you will partner closely with Product and other functions to deliver scalable, reliable, high-quality solutions.

Accountabilities:

• Lead up to two engineering streams, supporting teams of up to eight engineers across technical direction, delivery, and people development.
• Remain hands-on by designing, developing, reviewing, and shipping high-quality production software.
• Own and influence architecture decisions, engineering standards, code quality, security practices, and CI/CD capabilities.
• Partner closely with Product teams to deliver scalable and reliable solutions while balancing feature delivery with long-term technical investment.
• Coach, mentor, and develop engineers through regular feedback, goal setting, career development, and performance management.
• Drive operational excellence across engineering teams, including incident management, reliability, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Establish and promote modern software development practices covering clean code, automated testing, APIs, databases, deployment, and cloud-native engineering.
• Champion AI-first engineering practices and embed appropriate AI development tools into team workflows.
• Evaluate AI-generated code and other outputs effectively, ensuring quality, security, maintainability, and alignment with engineering standards.
• Lead Agile delivery processes and facilitate effective collaboration across distributed, cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to technical strategy and ensure engineering teams deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with broader product and business objectives.

Requirements:

• Proven experience delivering production software in a commercial engineering environment, with strong hands-on development capabilities.
• Strong full-stack engineering experience spanning backend, frontend, mobile, and cloud technologies.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing software engineering teams, including people management, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
• Strong experience using AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, Devin, or similar solutions across coding, testing, code reviews, documentation, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated output and establish effective AI adoption practices within engineering teams.
• Solid understanding of clean-code principles, automated testing, CI/CD, APIs, relational databases, modern software architecture, and engineering best practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms, containerization, and technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong architectural decision-making skills and the ability to balance technical quality with delivery priorities.
• Experience leading Agile development processes, incident management, operational improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and influence technical and organizational decisions.
• Experience working effectively within globally distributed engineering teams.
• Experience with React Native or Flutter is preferred.
• Familiarity with C#/.NET, TypeScript/React, Java, Azure, and/or AWS is advantageous.
• Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern distributed systems is a strong plus.
