Mobile Software Engineer in Test (SDET) Specialist I

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mobile Software Engineer in Test (SDET) Specialist I based in Brazil.

This role serves as a technical leader for quality across native iOS and Android applications, shaping how mobile quality is built and maintained at scale.

You will define comprehensive testing strategies, automation standards, and validation practices across the full mobile development and release lifecycle.

The position combines deep mobile QA expertise with strong technical judgment to solve complex challenges involving devices, operating systems, networks, and release environments.

You will also help advance AI-assisted and agentic testing workflows, establishing practical standards that improve regression efficiency, defect detection, and engineering velocity.

Working closely with Engineering, Product, Platform, and other technical teams, you will influence quality practices and help reduce production risk.

You will also mentor QA engineers, strengthen automation and quality engineering capabilities, and promote reusable practices across teams.

Accountabilities:

• Own and continuously evolve the mobile quality strategy, defining the appropriate balance of automated, exploratory, integration, and end-to-end testing across iOS and Android.
• Design, maintain, and improve scalable mobile automation frameworks using tools such as Appium, Espresso, XCUITest, and Maestro, while integrating automated testing into CI/CD workflows.
• Define testing strategies for mobile-specific scenarios, including application lifecycle events, deep and universal links, push notifications, operating system permissions, biometric authentication, complex gestures, accessibility, localization, and varying network conditions.
• Establish device and operating system coverage strategies using real-device platforms such as BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, AWS Device Farm, Firebase Test Lab, and TestMu Device Farm.
• Lead mobile release quality practices using tools such as Fastlane, Bitrise, App Center, TestFlight, and Google Play Console, while leveraging crash, performance, and observability signals to identify and reduce production risks.
• Operationalize AI-assisted and agentic mobile testing workflows to improve regression identification, test generation, execution, defect detection, and overall engineering efficiency while maintaining clear human validation standards.
• Establish measurable standards for AI-enabled testing, covering quality, accuracy, coverage, regression stability, defect detection, and appropriate delegation and validation boundaries.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, Platform, and related technical teams to refine requirements, troubleshoot device-specific issues, assess quality risks, and determine effective validation strategies.
• Improve QA methodologies, automation frameworks, documentation, quality metrics, and reusable testing practices to strengthen mobile quality across teams.
• Mentor and coach QA engineers in mobile automation, test design, quality engineering, AI-assisted workflows, and disciplined validation practices.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in quality assurance engineering, including significant hands-on experience testing native iOS and/or Android applications through both manual and automated approaches.
• Advanced experience with mobile automation frameworks such as Appium, Espresso, XCUITest, and Maestro.
• Proficiency working with Kotlin and/or Swift, combined with solid programming experience using languages and testing frameworks such as Java, TestNG, and JUnit.
• Experience defining device and operating system coverage strategies through real-device testing platforms such as BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, AWS Device Farm, Firebase Test Lab, or TestMu Device Farm.
• Strong experience with mobile CI/CD, release, and distribution tooling such as Fastlane, Bitrise, App Center, TestFlight, Google Play Console, GitLab, and GitHub.
• Proficiency with mobile debugging, profiling, crash reporting, and observability tools including adb, logcat, Xcode Instruments, Android Studio Profiler, Charles, Proxyman, Crashlytics, Sentry, and Datadog.
• Experience with bug tracking and test management platforms such as Jira and TestRail, together with a strong understanding of software development and QA methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted testing, AI testing platforms, or Model Context Protocol (MCP)-based test generation and execution, with sound judgment around reliability, validation, and human oversight.
• Proven ability to improve team efficiency or output quality through the strategic use of AI tools and automation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to identify root causes across complex mobile systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence technical and cross-functional stakeholders.
• A proactive ownership mindset and commitment to continuously improving product quality, engineering practices, and team effectiveness.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments involving complex and ambiguous technical challenges.
• Experience with mobile accessibility, localization, internationalization, or visual regression testing is an advantage.
