National Director, US Field Medical Cardiomyopathy

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a National Director, US Field Medical Cardiomyopathy based in United States.

This is a field-based medical leadership opportunity focused on advancing scientific engagement and medical strategy within cardiomyopathy and cardiovascular disease.

You will lead a national team of Regional Associate Directors, Regional Directors, and Medical Science Liaisons supporting a key cardiovascular portfolio and associated clinical development activities.

The role combines people leadership, strategic planning, external scientific engagement, and cross-functional collaboration across the medical organization.

You will guide teams in building trusted relationships with healthcare professionals, thought leaders, investigators, and other healthcare stakeholders.

The position plays an important role in generating actionable medical insights, supporting clinical trials, and informing broader medical and business strategies.

Success requires strong scientific credibility, strategic thinking, coaching capability, and the ability to operate effectively within a complex matrix environment.

Accountabilities

• Lead and oversee national Field Medical activities within the cardiomyopathy disease area, ensuring execution is aligned with the US Medical Strategy and broader medical objectives.
• Manage and develop Regional Associate Directors and Regional Directors, who oversee field-based Medical Science Liaison teams, providing coaching, direction, performance management, and strategic guidance.
• Ensure the field team delivers high-quality, compliant scientific exchange with thought leaders, healthcare professionals, payers, and other relevant stakeholders, addressing unsolicited scientific, product, and health-economic questions.
• Assess the external medical landscape through engagement with key experts, staying current on treatment approaches, scientific developments, unmet needs, clinical trials, competitive activity, and emerging healthcare trends.
• Ensure field teams capture, synthesize, and communicate meaningful medical insights to inform medical strategy, program development, and cross-functional decision-making.
• Develop and oversee the national Field Medical plan and contribute to medical planning, cross-functional account planning, and scientifically meaningful medical programs and initiatives.
• Oversee field medical support for sponsored clinical trials, investigator-sponsored research, and other research activities, including site identification, investigator engagement, patient recruitment support, feasibility assessments, and appropriate scientific exchange.
• Partner with clinical development teams to provide field-based insights on trial and site feasibility and support effective investigator relationships.
• Ensure appropriate understanding and application of pharmacovigilance procedures, compliance requirements, legal and ethical standards, and applicable regulatory expectations.
• Collaborate across Medical, Clinical, Commercial, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Legal, Compliance, HEOR, and Market Access functions to advance shared strategic priorities.
• Provide scientific training and updates to internal stakeholders and support the organization's understanding of relevant disease-area developments and medical priorities.
• Lead national initiatives and projects, manage multiple priorities in a matrix environment, and represent the field medical organization effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen field execution, improve team capabilities, and support the professional development of field medical colleagues.

Requirements

• MD, PharmD, PhD, or a relevant science graduate degree combined with substantial pharmaceutical industry experience; an MBA is a plus.
• At least 8 years of clinical and/or pharmaceutical industry experience, including a minimum of 6 years of Field Medical experience with demonstrated success in leadership, people management, and medical planning.
• Strong expertise in cardiovascular disease and a thorough understanding of the relevant scientific literature, treatment landscape, clinical development, and unmet patient and healthcare needs.
• Demonstrated experience leading national Field Medical initiatives, managing complex projects, and translating medical strategy into effective field execution.
• Proven ability to coach, mentor, develop, and manage teams within a Field Medical organization.
• Strong understanding of the US healthcare system and pharmaceutical industry, including healthcare institutions, integrated delivery networks, health systems, market access, patient advocacy, and relevant industry trends.
• Knowledge of clinical trial design and the processes and procedures required to support clinical activities.
• Understanding of pharmacoeconomic principles and the implications of HEOR data.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional and matrix environments, including situations involving ambiguity, changing priorities, and multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong account-management capabilities and experience building productive relationships with healthcare professionals, payers, investigators, and other external stakeholders.
• Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, presentation, listening, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly and effectively.
• Experience successfully serving as a product, joint-venture, or launch point is highly desirable.
• Broad experience across additional therapeutic areas and/or pharmaceutical functions is advantageous.
• Ability to lead autonomously, establish clear objectives using SMART principles, and translate insights into actionable strategies.
• Willingness and ability to spend significant time in the field with team members and external customers, with additional travel or home-office engagement as required.
