Plugins Expert

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Plugins Expert based in India.

This is an opportunity to build and evolve payment integrations that simplify ecommerce for merchants across the MENA region.

You will take ownership of PHP-based payment gateway plugins and Shopify integrations, ensuring they remain secure, reliable, scalable, and easy to implement.

The role combines hands-on software development with technical troubleshooting and continuous improvement of the merchant integration experience.

You will work across APIs, SDKs, webhooks, payment flows, automated testing, and third-party ecommerce platforms.

Collaboration with engineering, product, QA, payment operations, and partner teams will be central to delivering high-quality integrations.

Your work will directly contribute to smoother online payment experiences and stronger technical foundations for merchants and partners.

This is a fully remote, full-time role suited to an experienced developer with strong fintech and ecommerce expertise.

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize payment plugins and integrations for leading ecommerce platforms.
• Build and maintain secure, scalable, reliable PHP-based payment gateway plugins that are straightforward for merchants to implement.
• Develop and maintain Shopify apps and integrations, ensuring compatibility with Shopify APIs, webhooks, and platform updates.
• Integrate payment APIs, SDKs, webhooks, and payment workflows into ecommerce platforms and applications.
• Implement and support core payment flows, including authorization, capture, refunds, voids, payment-status updates, and asynchronous webhook notifications.
• Troubleshoot production integration issues raised by merchants, partners, and internal teams, identifying root causes and delivering effective solutions.
• Collaborate with Backend Engineering, Product, QA, Payment Operations, and Partner teams to deliver robust and dependable integrations.
• Apply secure coding practices and payment-industry standards throughout development and maintenance activities.
• Develop automated tests and support high-quality, reliable releases across supported platforms.
• Monitor and improve plugin performance, reliability, compatibility, and overall integration quality.
• Maintain technical documentation, tooling, and developer resources to improve the merchant and developer experience.
• Participate in code reviews, contribute to engineering best practices, and stay current with ecommerce platforms, payment technologies, APIs, and developer ecosystems.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Mandatory professional experience with a payment gateway, PSP, fintech, acquiring business, or other payment technology provider.
• Strong hands-on PHP development experience.
• Mandatory hands-on experience developing for Shopify, including Shopify APIs, apps or integrations, and webhooks.
• Strong understanding of payment gateway integrations and online payment flows.
• Solid experience with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, authentication mechanisms, and third-party integrations.
• Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining ecommerce plugins, extensions, modules, or applications.
• Strong knowledge of Git and established software development practices.
• Experience troubleshooting production integrations and resolving complex technical issues.
• Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.
• Strong knowledge of HTTP and API-based architectures.
• Familiarity with payment concepts including authorization, capture, refunds, tokenization, recurring payments, 3DS, and webhook-based processing.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a fast-paced fintech environment.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong attention to security, reliability, code quality, and the end-user integration experience.
