Senior Backend Engineer (Stellar ecosystem)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Stellar ecosystem) based in India.

This is a senior-level remote engineering opportunity within a fast-moving Web3 and decentralized finance environment.

You will take ownership of backend architecture, development, scalability, performance, and reliability.

The role focuses on building secure, production-grade systems that connect on-chain liquidity across blockchain ecosystems.

You will work closely with product, frontend, design, and engineering stakeholders to turn complex requirements into robust solutions.

A strong focus on the Stellar network makes this an excellent opportunity for engineers with hands-on blockchain experience.

You will also contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, mentoring, and continuous improvement across the backend stack.

Accountabilities

• Lead and actively contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of backend systems and APIs.
• Architect scalable, reliable, and secure backend solutions capable of supporting growing users, transactions, and evolving business requirements.
• Develop production-grade services using TypeScript and Node.js within containerized environments.
• Maintain high engineering standards through clean, readable, maintainable code, effective code reviews, and established development best practices.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize code, algorithms, data access, and backend services to improve system efficiency.
• Implement monitoring, debugging, and observability capabilities to proactively identify issues and maintain high system availability.
• Build and maintain comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end test suites to ensure system reliability and resilience.
• Work with blockchain integrations and contribute to systems interacting with decentralized networks and on-chain liquidity.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical solutions.
• Analyze complex technical and architectural challenges and propose practical, scalable solutions.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, helping strengthen team capabilities and engineering practices.
• Document APIs, code, architecture, and technical processes to support knowledge sharing and efficient onboarding.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and independently recommend improvements to the platform and engineering processes.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience in senior or lead-level backend roles.
• Previous professional experience in the blockchain/Web3 space, with a solid technical understanding of the EVM ecosystem or other blockchain technologies.
• Proven production experience with the Stellar network.
• Strong professional experience with TypeScript and backend development using Node.js.
• Strong understanding of blockchain technology, decentralized systems, and blockchain-based applications.
• Solid knowledge of document-oriented databases and caching technologies, particularly MongoDB and Redis.
• Experience designing backend systems and contributing to software architecture and technical design decisions.
• Strong knowledge of software testing frameworks and engineering best practices across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Ability to write scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable production-grade code.
• Experience with cloud, containerization, or modern infrastructure environments is highly valuable, including technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub, or Cloudflare.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a structured approach to diagnosing complex technical challenges.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• Proactive and autonomous working style, combined with the ability to contribute effectively within a distributed team.
• Strong curiosity about emerging technologies and the ability to independently evaluate and recommend technical improvements.
• Very strong written and spoken English.
• Experience with Stellar Soroban smart contracts is a plus.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline is an advantage.
• Candidates should be located in EMEA, with selected APAC locations potentially considered where working hours sufficiently overlap with European time zones.
