As Senior Director Software Engineering, you will lead a multi-team engineering organization supporting critical technology delivery within a healthcare data and analytics environment.
You will provide strategic, technical, operational, and people leadership across geographically distributed engineering teams and managers.
The role places a strong emphasis on building an AI-native approach to software development through intelligent tools, automation, and modern engineering workflows.
You will partner closely with Product, Data, IT, Security, Finance, Operations, and business leaders to translate strategic priorities into measurable technology outcomes.
You will oversee the delivery of scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable enterprise software while ensuring compliance with healthcare and data privacy requirements.
As a lead-by-example executive, you will modernize engineering practices, strengthen delivery effectiveness, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities:
- Build and lead a multi-team engineering organization with clear objectives, outcome-based metrics, strong accountability, and a culture centered on continuous improvement.
- Establish and advance AI-enabled software engineering practices by incorporating AI tools, automation, and intelligent workflows throughout the software development lifecycle, with appropriate human oversight and governance.
- Align engineering teams with enterprise architecture, technology governance, security requirements, and shared engineering standards to improve consistency, maintainability, and software quality.
- Provide hands-on technical and architectural oversight of roadmap execution, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and aligned with both short- and long-term business objectives.
- Oversee budgets, timelines, performance measures, resource allocation, and operational priorities across the assigned engineering organization.
- Lead and develop managers and engineering staff across multiple geographically distributed teams while working collaboratively with other technology leaders.
- Influence organizational structure and resource planning to ensure engineering capabilities are aligned with business goals and evolving technology priorities.
- Improve delivery throughput, engineering effectiveness, and resource utilization through streamlined processes, automation, DevOps practices, and AI-enabled tools without compromising quality or maintainability.
- Partner with Product, Operations, Data, Finance, Security, Program Management, IT, and business stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and translate them into actionable engineering plans.
- Modernize software development and testing practices through automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, test-driven development, DevOps, and AI-supported engineering workflows.
- Strengthen software operational excellence through effective practices for reliability, monitoring, telemetry, incident response, and production performance.
- Champion engineering best practices, operational excellence, and technology innovation to improve internal and external customer outcomes.
- Recruit, coach, develop, and retain high-performing engineering leaders and individual contributors while building a culture focused on growth, accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
- Establish strong relationships with senior stakeholders and serve as a technology leadership partner capable of influencing decisions across complex organizational environments.
- Lead special projects and additional strategic initiatives as assigned while maintaining accountability for annual objectives and performance goals.
- 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including at least 6 years leading engineering teams in a people-management capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Extensive experience designing and delivering complex enterprise software systems using technologies such as Java, React or Angular, microservices, relational and NoSQL databases, and cloud platforms.
- Recent hands-on technical experience and a strong understanding of modern AI-enabled software engineering practices.
- Proven success managing multiple engineering teams and managers responsible for enterprise software delivery across geographically distributed organizations.
- Demonstrated experience building, developing, mentoring, and retaining high-performing global engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of Lean, iterative, flow-based, and continuous improvement delivery practices that support quality and predictable execution.
- Proven experience implementing modern engineering practices including automated testing, test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
- Solid knowledge of software operations and DevOps, including reliability engineering, monitoring, telemetry, production performance, and incident response.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, sound technical judgment, and the ability to make effective decisions in complex and evolving technology environments.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and execute both short- and long-term technical and organizational goals across multiple teams and initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical teams, executives, business stakeholders, and cross-functional partners.
- Experience working in healthcare or another highly regulated industry with significant compliance, security, data privacy, and governance requirements is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, interpret data, critically assess information, prioritize effectively, and make timely decisions within established processes and workflows.
- Strong attention to accuracy, quality, thoroughness, and adherence to organizational processes, protocols, and security requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with reliable high-speed internet connectivity and a dedicated, secure workspace.
- Base compensation ranging from $207,000 to $247,000 USD per year.
