Profile match
Jobgether is a Belgian recruitment platform built entirely around remote and flexible work, aggregating openings from thousands of employers that allow work from outside an office. Its matching engine ranks roles against a candidate's skills, seniority and stated preferences on location and flexibility, rather than leaving people to filter a keyword search, and it verifies how genuinely remote each posting is. The company also runs an AI screening layer that shortlists applicants for employers, and publishes research and guidance on distributed work practices alongside the job marketplace itself.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineer based in United States.

This role leads complex electrical engineering, protection and control, testing, and commissioning activities across utility, generation, industrial, institutional, and federal power systems.

You will serve as a senior technical authority, delivering engineering solutions from conceptual design through startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

The position combines hands-on technical execution with project leadership, client interaction, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination.

You will work extensively with protection systems, relay settings, power system studies, SCADA integration, communications, and substation equipment.

The role also provides the opportunity to guide junior engineers and field personnel while contributing to proposals, project planning, and technical standards.

Success requires deep power systems expertise, strong judgment, clear communication, and the ability to manage complex technical challenges independently.

This is a high-impact engineering opportunity with a mix of office, home-based, and field work, including travel to project sites.

Accountabilities:

    • Develop complete Protection & Control engineering design packages, including one-line and three-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, communication architecture, panel layouts, cable schedules, SCADA integration drawings, and relay settings documentation.
    • Perform relay coordination, short-circuit, load flow, arc flash, power quality, and protection system studies, along with relay settings calculations for utility, generation, distribution, and industrial power systems.
    • Review specifications, engineering drawings, operating philosophies, client standards, relay settings files, logic configurations, and communications integration designs to ensure technical accuracy and functional alignment.
    • Ensure engineering designs, relay settings, studies, testing, and commissioning activities comply with applicable client standards, NERC requirements, IEEE standards, utility requirements, and industry best practices.
    • Analyze relay event reports, oscillography, sequence-of-events data, fault records, and power quality information, and prepare technical findings and corrective action recommendations.
    • Lead technical project execution and provide direction to engineers, designers, field technicians, and commissioning personnel assigned to projects.
    • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by understanding technical requirements, schedules, operational priorities, and financial objectives.
    • Support project resource planning, execution strategies, technical deliverables, commissioning activities, budgets, and schedules.
    • Contribute to engineering proposals, estimates, technical scopes of work, project schedules, and budget development.
    • Mentor and train junior engineers, designers, technicians, and commissioning personnel on technical methods, systems, and industry practices.
    • Lead, support, and perform testing and commissioning of protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, RTUs, SCADA systems, communications equipment, batteries, chargers, metering systems, and associated substation equipment.
    • Support energization and startup activities, perform field walkdowns, troubleshoot system issues, and assist with construction and operational challenges.
    • Perform or witness functional testing, including DC trip testing, relay verification, end-to-end testing, SCADA point-to-point validation, communications testing, and post-installation validation.
    • Proactively communicate technical risks, project concerns, schedule issues, and resource needs to project and department leadership.
    • Promote safe work practices when handling electrical equipment and performing engineering, testing, and field activities.
    • Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution is preferred.
      • Approximately 6-15+ years of engineering, testing, commissioning, or related electrical power systems experience.
      • In-depth understanding of three-phase electrical power systems and Protection & Control schemes.
      • Strong experience developing and reviewing Protection & Control engineering packages for utility, generation, industrial, institutional, or federal facilities.
      • Proven experience leading engineering teams, project execution activities, technical client engagements, and field commissioning efforts.
      • Strong knowledge of electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based protection devices from manufacturers such as GE, SEL, ALSTOM, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Beckwith, Basler, Eaton, and ABB.
      • Experience calculating relay settings and performing protection coordination studies across utility, distribution, generation, and industrial systems.
      • Experience with power system study platforms such as CAPE, CYME, ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, Synergy, or comparable tools.
      • Ability to develop macros, scripts, or other automation tools that support engineering studies and relay setting calculations.
      • Experience with fault analysis, post-event analysis, relay mis-operation investigations, and corrective action development.
      • Practical experience using relay test equipment with protection systems from multiple manufacturers.
      • Strong understanding of testing procedures for circuit breakers, transformers, circuit switchers, MOABs, CTs, PTs, batteries, chargers, transfer switches, line tuners, wave traps, carrier relays, and related equipment.
      • Experience leading crews during testing and commissioning of new or modified substations, including equipment isolation, restoration, and complex circuit cutovers.
      • Experience with rotating machinery, including generators and excitation systems.
      • Experience testing RTUs locally and remotely in coordination with system operators.
      • Working knowledge of SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems.
      • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar engineering design software.
      • Familiarity with PDF editing tools such as Bluebeam Revu or comparable applications.
      • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
      • Strong project management, budgeting, organizational, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, engineering teams, and field personnel.
      • Proven ability to mentor less experienced engineers and technicians while working independently on complex assignments.
      • Proactive, goal-oriented approach with strong energy, initiative, and adaptability.
      • Ability to travel at least 25%.
      • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
      • Ability to perform field work involving driving, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, equipment access, and work in varied environmental and temperature conditions.
      • Comfortable working in office, home-based, and field settings, including environments involving uneven surfaces, confined spaces, heights, noise, vibration, moisture, and electrical hazards.
      • Ability to work irregular or extended hours, be on call when required, and travel as necessary to support project completion.
      • Benefits:

        • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
        • Basic and supplemental life insurance.
