This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Agents based in United Kingdom.
This is an opportunity for a senior engineer to build advanced AI agents that perform meaningful work for thousands of developers and directly influence how modern software products are monetized. You will work on agentic systems that go beyond simple LLM wrappers, contributing to orchestration, tool execution, context management, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop controls. The role combines deep backend engineering with product thinking, giving you significant ownership over what gets built and how it reaches users. You’ll operate in an early-stage product environment within a growing organization, where architecture is evolving and engineers are expected to shape technical direction. Collaboration is fully remote and highly autonomous, with strong emphasis on clear communication, fast iteration, reliability, and customer impact. This role is well suited to a builder who enjoys ambiguity, ships pragmatically, and wants to help establish the infrastructure that future AI-powered products will depend on.
Accountabilities
- Design, build, and operate production-grade agentic systems that deliver tangible value to developers and end users.
- Develop and improve core agent infrastructure, including orchestration, tool execution, context management, evaluation pipelines, permissions, and human-in-the-loop controls.
- Build meaningful user-facing AI features and continuously monitor their usage, reliability, adoption, and overall impact.
- Own projects end to end, from identifying opportunities and defining scope through architecture, implementation, launch, monitoring, and post-launch improvements.
- Work closely with Product and other engineering teams to prioritize initiatives, validate ideas, and translate customer needs into effective technical solutions.
- Quickly understand and improve existing codebases, including systems and components you did not originally build.
- Write high-quality, well-tested, observable, secure, and maintainable code while maintaining a high engineering standard.
- Debug complex issues methodically across frontend, backend, and data layers, contribute to incident response, and drive preventative improvements.
- Participate actively in code reviews, technical discussions, bug bashes, architecture planning, and engineering initiatives.
- Contribute to system architecture decisions that extend beyond the immediate team and help shape long-term technical direction.
- Mentor other engineers and share knowledge, discoveries, and best practices across the organization.
- Engage directly with customers when appropriate to understand how products perform in real-world environments and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Stay current with AI tools, agentic development practices, and emerging approaches, applying relevant techniques to production systems.
- Identify problems proactively, propose improvements, and take ownership of initiatives through implementation and measurable outcomes.
- 8+ years of professional experience building and shipping production software systems.
- Demonstrated experience building production AI agents that are actively used by real users, including systems involving tool use, structured outputs, context management, evaluation, and orchestration.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals, with experience developing systems that are reliable, observable, secure, and scalable.
- Proven ability to deliver meaningful user-facing features and improve them based on usage, feedback, and operational data.
- Strong product mindset and customer orientation, with the ability to understand problems from the perspective of developers, product teams, and other end users.
- Experience taking ownership beyond implementation, including scoping, prioritization, architecture, rollout planning, and post-launch iteration.
- Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and evolving requirements, particularly within an early-stage AI product environment.
- Strong judgment around engineering quality and scope, balancing technical excellence with pragmatic delivery and business value.
- Comfortable navigating unfamiliar codebases, identifying opportunities for improvement, and making effective changes quickly.
- Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to resolving production issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in a fully remote environment where asynchronous communication is essential.
- Self-directed, proactive, and entrepreneurial approach, with a willingness to identify problems and drive solutions independently.
- Strong collaboration and mentoring skills, with a habit of sharing technical knowledge and raising the engineering bar.
- Familiarity with subscription businesses, mobile app stores, developer tools, or related product ecosystems is a plus.
- Experience working with OpenAI or Anthropic APIs is advantageous.
- Familiarity with AI observability and evaluation frameworks such as Langfuse or LangChain is a plus.
- Experience building Slack integrations, contributing to open-source AI/ML tooling, or maintaining systems at significant scale is beneficial.
- Competitive equity in a fast-growing Series C technology company backed by leading investors.
- A 10-year exercise window for vested equity options.
- Fully remote working environment designed around autonomy, flexibility, and ownership.
- 4-5 weeks of flexible time off annually.
- Paid access to a coworking space.
- Dedicated workspace budget to support an effective remote setup.
- Continuous learning and professional development stipend.
- Opportunity to work on advanced AI systems with significant real-world usage and impact.
- High level of technical ownership and influence over architecture, product direction, and engineering practices.
- Collaborative environment with experienced engineers and opportunities for mentorship and knowledge sharing.
