Software Engineer-Test Automation

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer-Test Automation based in India.

This is a remote engineering opportunity focused on building reliable, scalable, and highly automated software quality practices.

You will design and maintain robust test frameworks while contributing directly to production backend services.

The role combines advanced TypeScript and Playwright expertise with hands-on Java or Kotlin development.

You will help embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and strengthen quality throughout the entire software development lifecycle.

The position offers meaningful ownership, including debugging complex issues and driving root-cause analysis through to resolution.

You will collaborate with cross-functional and international teams in a remote-first technology environment.

Success in this role requires strong engineering fundamentals, an automation mindset, and the ability to contribute beyond testing alone.

Accountabilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks using TypeScript and Playwright.
• Develop comprehensive functional, integration, and API test suites to ensure strong coverage and reliable product behavior.
• Write clear, maintainable, and reusable automated test cases aligned with application requirements and quality standards.
• Contribute hands-on to production backend services using Java or Kotlin, taking ownership beyond test code.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable and repeatable test execution throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Investigate test failures and production issues, performing debugging, troubleshooting, and structured root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product teams, and other stakeholders to embed quality practices throughout development.
• Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, automation efficiency, reliability, and maintainability.
• Support engineering practices aligned with relevant security and compliance standards, including ISO/SOC-oriented controls.
• Contribute independently to technical solutions while communicating effectively with distributed and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Strong professional experience in backend software engineering combined with substantial experience in software testing and test automation.
• Hands-on experience developing backend services with Java or Kotlin.
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and practical experience using it to build automation frameworks.
• Strong hands-on experience with Playwright, including designing, implementing, and maintaining test frameworks.
• Proven experience creating functional, integration, and API tests with comprehensive and maintainable coverage.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and working with automated software delivery processes.
• Ability and willingness to contribute directly to production code rather than focusing exclusively on testing.
• Understanding of IT security and compliance best practices based on ISO, SOC, or comparable standards.
• Strong engineering judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerized services, and microservice architectures is an advantage.
• Experience with performance, reliability, accessibility, or contract testing is desirable.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and backend services is beneficial.
• Familiarity with Git and pull-request-based development workflows is a plus.
• Experience with CI/CD platforms and web or mobile web testing tools is advantageous.
• Ability to work with approximately 80-90% overlap with EST working hours; candidates based in the APAC region are particularly suited to the role.
