Jobgether is a Belgian recruitment platform built entirely around remote and flexible work, aggregating openings from thousands of employers that allow work from outside an office. Its matching engine ranks roles against a candidate's skills, seniority and stated preferences on location and flexibility, rather than leaving people to filter a keyword search, and it verifies how genuinely remote each posting is. The company also runs an AI screening layer that shortlists applicants for employers, and publishes research and guidance on distributed work practices alongside the job marketplace itself.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Trade Compliance Attorney based in Canada.

This is an opportunity for an experienced attorney to provide sophisticated U.S. customs counsel on complex and time-sensitive trade matters.

You will independently advise on customs regulations, tariffs, investigations, enforcement actions, and trade remedies.

The role combines strategic legal advisory work with hands-on management of matters before U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other relevant agencies.

You will assess risk, develop practical recommendations, and help stakeholders navigate evolving trade requirements.

The position offers exposure to high-impact issues spanning tariff programs, valuation, classification, country of origin, and duty recovery.

You’ll work in a flexible, remote environment while applying deep subject-matter expertise to challenging international trade matters.

This role is particularly well suited to a lawyer whose practice is centered on substantive U.S. customs law rather than operational compliance.

Accountabilities

    • Provide comprehensive legal advice on U.S. customs matters, including IEEPA, duty refunds, Foreign-Trade Zones, UFLPA, USMCA, country-of-origin, First Sale, valuation, and tariff classification.
    • Independently manage customs investigations, enforcement matters, prior disclosures, internal risk assessments, Post-Summary Corrections, protests, and proceedings involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other relevant agencies.
    • Advise on tariff matters, including Section 232, and support ongoing tariff-related initiatives and customs matters.
    • Provide legal support on trade-remedy matters, including antidumping and countervailing duty issues, appeals, and related proceedings.
    • Advise on emerging trade and technology-related issues, including AI export-control considerations where relevant.
    • Partner with key business and legal stakeholders to identify customs risks and translate complex requirements into practical, strategic recommendations.
    • Manage multiple sophisticated matters independently while maintaining strong legal judgment, attention to detail, and responsiveness to client needs.
    • Requirements

      • Substantial hands-on experience practicing U.S. customs law, with a demonstrated ability to independently manage complex customs matters.
      • A substantive customs-law practice, rather than experience focused primarily on operational customs compliance, export controls, or general trade compliance.
      • Strong experience with customs investigations and enforcement, valuation, country-of-origin issues, tariffs, protests, and related proceedings.
      • Experience advising on matters before U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other relevant government agencies.
      • Juris Doctor degree or equivalent legal qualification and authorization to practice law in an applicable jurisdiction.
      • Experience with trade-remedy matters, including antidumping and countervailing duty matters and related appeals or proceedings, is an asset.
      • Familiarity with IEEPA, UFLPA, USMCA, Section 232, First Sale, Foreign-Trade Zones, prior disclosures, and Post-Summary Corrections is highly valued.
      • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex customs issues clearly and provide commercially practical guidance.
      • Ability to work independently, exercise sound legal judgment, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders in a remote environment.
      • Benefits

        • Estimated total compensation for full-time attorney roles of $104,500-$325,000 per year, depending on factors such as experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.
        • Flexible remote work arrangements.
        • Potential eligibility for health, dental, and vision insurance.
        • Paid holidays and paid time off.
        • Professional development opportunities and access to relevant tools and resources.
        • Opportunity to work on complex, high-impact legal matters with leading organizations.
        • A dynamic environment designed to support continued professional growth and a varied legal career.
        • Equal opportunity workplace with reasonable accommodations available during the recruitment process.
