Headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, Joby Aviation is an aerospace company specializing in the development of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The company builds zero-emission aircraft designed to operate as fast and quiet air taxi services across urban environments and regional transportation networks. Working closely with civil aviation authorities and industry partners, it aims to deploy safe, scalable aerial mobility platforms for commercial passenger travel.

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Conformity Coordinator Lead to join our Airworthiness Team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Airworthiness Team in ensuring the compliance aspects of the aircraft are completed, contributing to the overall airworthiness of our fleet. This position will work hand in hand with multi-disciplinary teams, including manufacturing and quality, to assure the aircraft meets the standards required for conformity and maintain configuration during the aircraft’s build and flight testing.

Responsibilities

The Conformity Coordinator Lead will focus primarily on assuring the aircraft achieves its airworthiness expectations, aircraft configuration control, and maintaining conformity. In addition to all individual contributor responsibilities, this role provides leadership, mentorship, and direction to the Conformity

  • Coordinator and cross-functional partners.
  • Conformity Inspections: Track conformed units and installations on the flight test aircraft. Provide feedback, support, and continuous improvement to the process at the manufacturing facility.
  • Deviation Disposition: Remain cognizant of aircraft deviations or non-conformances; document, escalate, and drive disposition of findings in a timely manner
  • Airworthiness: Work with the DAR and provide required documentation to support obtaining airworthiness tickets
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of conformity and configuration maintenance activities.
  • Working closely with other company departments, primarily manufacturing, quality, airworthiness, and configuration management, to ensure that the airplane configuration and conformity meet the requirements for program objectives
  • Resolve issues on the manufacturing floor related to aircraft configuration and conformity
  • Provide guidance to manufacturing and quality team members related to configuration control and conformity
  • Point of contact at the airplane in support of certification and TIA test flights
  • Be able to identify and resolve issues collaboratively
  • Create reports and metrics as required
  • Create metrics of progress and be able to present status to management
  • Mentor and provide day-to-day guidance to the Conformity Coordinator, supporting their professional development and effectiveness
  • Lead cross-functional meetings and serve as the primary decision-maker for conformity and configuration matters at the aircraft level
  • Own and continuously improve conformity processes, standards, and documentation, driving program-level efficiency and compliance
  • May require occasional travel.

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in the civil aviation industry
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical discipline; Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering preferred
  • Experience with aircraft conformity processes
  • Previous Type Certification or Validation project experience, Part 23 or 27 experience preferred
  • Previous project management or project engineering experience (formal certification such as PMP is a plus but not required; demonstrated informal leadership of cross-functional projects is acceptable)
  • Experience with aviation manufacturing and inspection processes
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, coordination, technical writing, and record keeping skills
  • Strong organizational skills and highly detail-oriented
  • Able to effectively work on multiple projects at once
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory documents.
  • Proficient in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required

Desired

  • Knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 23, 25, 27, and 29 regulations, policy, and guidance material
  • Knowledge of ASTM, RTCA, and SAE standards
  • Basic understanding of operations, pilot licensing, and mechanic licensing regulations and certification processes
  • Experience using Dassault, Atlassian, and Polarian software tools
  • Pilot experience or other experience with aircraft flight operations
