With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.\nOverview\nWe are seeking a motivated individual with leadership and technical experience to join our team as a Hand Layup Supervisor for the 2nd shift. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the Hand Layup team that fabricates composite laminates to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency are consistently met.\nJob duties include managing build schedule, ensuring proper start and end of shift standards are in place and scheduled, support management of material cure-by dates, FMDS metric reporting, monitoring workflow and compliance to requirements, resource management to meet production demand, and developing team to enhance skill levels.\nThis role requires strong leadership, the ability to work well under pressure, a deep understanding of Hand Layup operations, demonstration of role model behavior, and high attention to detail.\nResponsibilities\nOversee daily Hand Layup operations by assigning tasks, balancing workloads, and ensuring all Hand Layup work cells are fully utilized to meet production targets \nEnsure consistent execution across all shifts with clear communication of priorities and expectations \nSupport hands-on operations, including loading and unloading composite parts into work cells, ensuring proper positioning and secure setup for quality layup \nEnsure adherence to standardized work, engineering requirements, and layup specifications \nVerify layup requirements are met with programs and establish robust visual controls for monitoring protocols \nEstablish a strict adherence to safety guidelines for the team to follow, and routine audits are in place to support a safe work environment \nDevelop work centers to meet Safety, Quality, Productivity and 4S+S requirements and hands-on involvement in training \nTrack, analyze, and report team performance metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, and 4S+S) using FMDS \nLead root cause analysis efforts to identify and eliminate process failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to close system gaps and prevent recurrence \nCollaborate with Equipment Maintenance team to ensure VirTek lasers and other equipment maintenance plans are being completed on a timely basis \nResource management and capacity planning for current and future demand \nEnsure materials are properly handled and managed to preserve outlife and cure-by-date \nContinuously improve the process through process development and reduce cycle time \nDrive accountability for first-time quality and reduce defects through proactive process management \nRequired\n2nd shift schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5:30pm-4:00am \nFlexibility to support overtime and weekend work as needed\n High school diploma or GED equivalent with 3+ years of composite manufacturing/hand layup experience, including 1-3 years of supervisory or lead experience in a production environment\nFamiliarity with Hand Layup operations, composite part fabrication, process development, and operational training\nBasic understanding of composite materials and curing requirements\nWorking knowledge of manufacturing systems, quality standards, and safety protocols\nAbility to balance hands-on technical support with operational oversight\nAbility to interpret technical specifications and follow written instructions\nAbility to lift assemblies weighing up to 50 lbs\nAbility to obtain certification to wear a respirator\nNo known allergies to epoxies or composite materials\nAdditional Information\nCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $ 75,800 - $117,400/yr.
