With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.\nOverview\nWorking as a Materials & Process engineer at our Dayton, Ohio facility (JMO), you will support propeller blade process development activities leading to the certification and production of eVTOL aircraft. The role requires hands-on composite fabrication experience and a strong desire to work directly on the shop floor. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled engineer who thrives at the intersection of fabrication and process development, bridging the gap between engineering and manufacturing, and possesses the ability to work with minimal supervision within a small, focused team.\nResponsibilities\nDevelop and optimize composite manufacturing processes for propeller blade fabrication, including dry fiber layup, resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum bagging, curing, demolding, and post-cure operations\nSupport RTM process development using injection equipment, including resin system evaluation, injection parameter development, and cure cycle optimization\nPerform hands-on composite fabrication in the blade development cell, working alongside production technicians\nExecute laser-projected layup operations using lamination tables\nFabricate batch acceptance test panels in support of material qualification and process validation activities\nDevelop and maintain SOPs, Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWIs), and process specifications for blade manufacturing operations\nInterpret and work with engineering drawings and process specifications for composite and bonded structures\nPrepare and maintain molds, tooling, and fixtures associated with blade fabrication and development operations\nPlan, execute, and report M&P testing for material qualification and process validation, including Incoming Resin Testing (IRT), DSC (Tg, degree of cure), FTIR and mechanical coupon testing\nSpecify, install, and validate Composite Test Lab equipment. Write test methods and SOPs for the test equipment\nRecord and analyze process data; document and communicate non-conformances and support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities\nMaintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace, following all Joby safety procedures and OSHA regulations\nRequired\nB.S. in Aerospace, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline\nDemonstrated hands-on composite fabrication experience \nFamiliarity with composite manufacturing processes such as dry fiber layup, prepreg layup, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, or RTM\nAbility to read and work from engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specifications\nStrong attention to detail and critical thinking skills with a commitment to workmanship quality\nProblem-solving mindset with a willingness to work on the shop floor and collaborate effectively with technicians and engineers\nProficiency in MS Office Suite and general computer skills\nDesired\nAdvanced degree in Aerospace or Materials Engineering\nProficiency in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (3DX) or SolidWorks \nAdditional Information\nCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $66,560 - $75,800/yr.
