In this role, you will lead controls projects from the jobsite and help ensure each project is executed with strong technical quality, clear communication, and disciplined financial control.\nRole Overview\nAs a Controls Project Manager for our HVAC division, you will act as the on-site leader for assigned controls projects, guiding work from planning through commissioning and closeout. You will coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, and customers to deliver complete systems on time, within scope, and with a strong balance between customer satisfaction and project profitability.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead assigned HVAC controls projects through hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, commissioning, and closeout.\nCoordinate day-to-day execution with subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative support as needed.\nManage project financial performance, including costs, billings, collections, cash flow, and gross margin.\nMaintain regular communication with customers throughout all phases of the project and support the development of long-term relationships.\nReview contractual scope, evaluate field directives, bulletins, and schedule changes, and pursue change orders when additional work is identified.\nCoordinate procurement activities, including material selection, ordering, vendor pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.\nOversee loading, device verification, system checkout, and commissioning of system controllers and related equipment.\nValidate complete system functionality, resolve issues, and ensure the final installation performs to project requirements.\nPrepare accurate as-built records, commissioning documentation, manuals, and warranty documentation.\nProvide site-specific training for owners and operators on system operation and use.\nAttend job progress meetings, report project status, and provide forecasts for revenue, costs, and margin as required.\nEnsure work is completed in compliance with applicable safety standards and legal requirements.\nHow You Will Do It\nOwn each project with accountability, safety, and integrity, making sure commitments are met and work is completed to the required standard.\nStay close to the jobsite and the customer by actively managing communication, resolving issues quickly, and removing barriers to progress.\nUse disciplined planning and clear follow-through to keep scope, schedule, cost, and quality aligned from start to finish.\nImprove every day through candid problem-solving, accurate documentation, and timely escalation of risks or changes.\nWin as one team by working collaboratively with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and Johnson Controls colleagues.\nTranslate technical details into practical updates for both technical and non-technical audiences.\nBalance customer expectations with project financial results by tracking billings, collections, and budget performance closely.\nSupport crew development through coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance when needed.\nFollow established Johnson Controls standards for installation, commissioning, and field execution.\nQualifications\nTechnical associate degree with four years of field experience, or six years of equivalent related field experience in the HVAC or Building Automation industry.\nHands-on experience in systems design and commissioning of digital HVAC or Building Automation controls systems.\nHVAC controls knowledge and a solid understanding of control theory and HVAC or Building Automation systems.\nCustomer communication experience, along with strong organizational skills and a proven ability to lead projects.\nProven verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.\nAbility to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.\nComputer proficiency in Windows, Excel, and related business tools.\nUnderstanding of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting.\nCommitment to high standards of safety and ethical conduct.\nNice to Have\nBachelor’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience in the HVAC industry.\nExperience preparing project status reports for upper management.\nExperience with project billings, collections, subcontractor payment processes, or change order management.\nWhy Join Us\nCompetitive salary.\nPaid vacation, holidays, and sick time.\nComprehensive benefits package including 401(k), pension, medical, dental, and vision care.\nOn-the-job and cross-training opportunities.\nEncouraging and collaborative team environment.\nDedication to safety through our Zero Harm policy.\nIf you are ready to lead HVAC controls projects and deliver strong results for customers and teams, we encourage you to apply.\nHIRING SALARY RANGE: $94,300 - $141,700 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
