In this role, you will support customer sites with hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, and trusted service on critical systems.\nRole Overview\nAs a Fire Alarm Service Technician you will receive service calls, diagnose system issues, and perform repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products. You will work across multiple manufacturers' Fire & Life Safety systems, communicate directly with customers, and help ensure systems are restored quickly, safely, and professionally.\nKey Responsibilities\nReceive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including a brief description of equipment or system malfunctions.\nContact customer representatives to understand equipment and system problems.\nDiagnose issues and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products at customer sites.\nFollow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to repair equipment.\nService, troubleshoot, and install Fire & Life Safety systems from multiple manufacturers, including SimplexGrinnell.\nRead and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.\nProvide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with district staff and customers to support customer satisfaction.\nComplete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding using smart phones, laptops, and other communication devices.\nObtain customer signatures upon completion of service call assignments.\nParticipate in a scheduled on-call rotation and support team members by helping train or mentor others when needed.\nProvide recommendations and solutions to help customers improve facility performance and resolve service-related issues, including quote support where applicable.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nHow You Will Do It\nOwn each service visit with accountability, safety, and integrity from initial diagnosis through final resolution.\nStay close to the work and focus on what matters by restoring customer systems efficiently and removing obstacles to timely service.\nUse strong troubleshooting discipline, clear documentation, and candid communication to improve outcomes every day.\nWork as one team with dispatch, district staff, and fellow technicians to deliver reliable solutions for customers.\nOrganize and effectively use technical resources, information, materials, and support to execute assigned tasks efficiently.\nPerform troubleshooting and repair work on installed systems, including panel repair or reprogramming, device replacement or repair, resolving low voltage circuit troubles, and system testing.\nProgram fire alarm, security, and access control system panels as required by the job.\nComplete all task-related, activity, productivity, and documentation requirements in a timely manner.\nBe available for on-call and occasional after-hours work based on customer needs.\nPresent practical recommendations and support quotes that help customers improve system performance and building efficiency.\nQualifications\n1+ years of documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.\nExperience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational or product manuals.\nKnowledge of test equipment, including multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent.\nAbility to follow verbal and written instructions.\nDemonstrated customer service skills and a professional approach with customers and internal teams.\nAbility to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.\nAbility to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high-lift equipment up to 40 feet, and working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.\nAbility to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.\nAbility to maintain truck inventory to support timely response to customer needs.\nAbility to follow and always adhere to safety guidelines and procedures.\nPossess a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company requirements.\nRetain any licenses required by national, state, and local codes.\nNice to Have\nNICET Level III certification.\nExperience with CCTV and IT/IP networks.\nWhy Join Us\nJohnson Controls offers the opportunity to work on important building systems that support customers across critical industries.
