In this hands-on role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers to design, build, analyze, and test mechanical systems while contributing to projects that support innovation and operational excellence. This opportunity is ideal for a student who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, learning new skills, and working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.\nHow you will do it:\nDesign, build, and operate mechanical systems, test fixtures, and custom production equipment.\nPartner with full-time engineers to develop system requirements and support project execution.\nPerform subsystem-level analysis, design, assembly, and validation activities.\nDocument design decisions, engineering changes, and test results in a clear and timely manner.\nDevelop, document, and execute mechanical testing methods and procedures.\nCreate and modify CAD models, perform tolerance analyses, and develop 2D engineering drawings.\nCreate and manage tickets, provide technical feedback, and assist in troubleshooting software, process, and hardware issues.\nCollaborate across engineering and manufacturing teams to support project goals and continuous improvement initiatives.\nDemonstrate Johnson Controls' Winning Behaviors by focusing on impactful work, collaborating effectively, taking ownership of results, and continuously seeking opportunities to learn and improve.\nRequired Qualifications:\nCurrently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.\nStrong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.\nDemonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and complete tasks efficiently and effectively.\nAdaptable and capable of succeeding in a fast-paced environment.\nInterest in detailed engineering work, including part design, material selection, and engineering drawings.\nPrevious co-op, internship, or industry experience strongly preferred.\nHands-on experience with rapid prototyping tools and processes, including 3D printing, milling, lathes, laser cutting, and hand tools.\nExperience using SolidWorks and creating or modifying 2D engineering drawings.\nStrong communication skills and willingness to learn new technical skills independently while working within a collaborative team environment.\nMust be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with Python, Linux, Jira, Git, or PLC programming.\nExposure to software and hardware troubleshooting in a technical environment.\nDemonstrated problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.\nWhy Join Us?\nAt Johnson Controls, you'll gain meaningful, hands-on engineering experience while working alongside experienced professionals on real-world projects.
