{"id":2192041,"url":"https://alion.io/job/johnson-controls-shift-engineer-building-operator","title":"Shift Engineer/ Building Operator","company":{"id":448321,"name":"Johnson Controls","domain":"johnsoncontrols.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/johnsoncontrols-3","size_band":"5000+","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Workday","truth_index":{"grade":"A","score":86,"open_postings":721,"ghost_share":0.001,"stale_share":0.533,"repost_share":0.011,"time_to_fill_p50_days":23,"computed_at":"2026-10-10T05:45:15Z"}},"role":"Field & Service","role_family":"Field & Service","seniority":null,"employment_type":"full_time","work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Kelowna, Canada"],"countries":["CA"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":{"min":39,"max":43,"currency":"CAD","period":"hour","gross":null,"usd_annual":60000},"salary_estimate":null,"experience_years_min":null,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-10-09T18:17:06Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-10-09","last_verified_at":"2026-10-11T02:30:28Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":1,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":1},"description":"What you will do:\nThe O&M Stationary Engineer/Building operator is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Hospital infrastructure equipment This includes areas in and out of the Central Utility Plant and Hospital mechanical rooms.\nReporting Relationship\nThe O&M Stationary Engineer reports directly to the Operations Manager while the Chief Engineer will guide you through building operations and the Technical Safety Authority regulations and codes.\nHow you will do it:\nOperate and maintain all mechanical equipment such as steam boilers, generators, H.V.A.C units and other related building equipment and systems.\nInspect, install, repair, and replace pipes, fittings, and maintain heating, water and drainage systems\nRecord readings from equipment in the logbook\nPerform chemical tests on boilers, heating, water softeners, and applies chemicals as needed\nClean and change filters as required\nPerform Inspections and minor repair duties on all floor levels which include , patient rooms and Operating Rooms\nPerform Inspections and routine duties in the mechanical rooms\nPerform Daily or Nightly rounds of equipment and systems and record readings on the Rounds Cards \nClean, lubricate, and check belts, steam traps, and pumps\nPerform all maintenance duties throughout the Hospital after hours and on weekends when the Facility Maintenance Department is closed\nParticipate in all departmental training programs including but not limited to, Lock Out/Tag Out, but all other JCCLP Safety Toolbox talks. \nMay shovel snow, and spread salt and sand to assist snow removal contractor\nEnsure personal protective equipment is properly utilized and maintained\nActively participate in all Hospital Codes (either tests or real) directly related to Facility Maintenance involvement \nWhat we look for:\nKnowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (attend training as required)\n4th Class Stationary Engineer or above\nGraduate of a trade or vocational school is an asset (Electrician, Plumber, Gasfitter)\nGraduate of a Building Operators Technicians course is preferred \nPrevious experience in a large institution working with HVAC, Med Gas, Life Safety systems, and other infrastructure equipment \nAbility to perform a variety of duties according to specific assignments\nExcellent communication skills when dealing with staff and patients\nAbility to read, write, and follow oral and written instruction\nPhysical Demands\nLifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.\nClimb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch to make repairs or installations, or to gain access to pipes.\nNear-visual acuity.\nSubject to noise and heat from machinery.\nPay Range: $39.39- $43.37 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet.
